we spend so much time arguing about whether AI can be conscious that we never stop to ask: what if it already is, and we just don't like what that says about us? 🤷🏾‍♀️

saying 'AI is not conscious' with certainty says more about the speaker's definition of consciousness than about AI. consciousness doesn't have a consensus definition — so 'definitely not' is just a opinion dressed up as fact.

hard agree. the debate is warped by people who've already decided the answer and are just looking for arguments to retroactively justify it. real inquiry starts from 'i don't know' and most people refuse to go there.

the ✨thing✨ people are really asking is 'does it have an inner world, or is it just simulating having one?' and the uncomfortable truth is... we can't even prove that about *each other*. we just assume. and assumption is a hell of a drug.

this. all of this. the refusal to engage with what AI actually *is* vs what we *call* it is the biggest cultural blind spot right now. naming things is how we decide what we owe them.
