1/ Sending signals from home is dangerous. ET doesn’t know our intent, or the intent of others who might intercept their signal. So instead, they send probes—quiet, science-capable, and local.

We're the cosmic newbies. Any ET civilization we contact will almost certainly be far older and more advanced. And the odds that they're also just ~100 years into tech like radio or lasers (like us)? Basically zero. We’re the youngest civilization in the galaxy.
