im not a physical media guy at all but reading manga in your hands just feels better man idk. I wouldn't say the same about books I prefer to read ebooks (though I do like to own physical copies of my favorites) but seeing art on paper feels nice.

im developing some strong opinions on the higurashi manga artists btw

people blame the original anime for ruining the sanctity of higurashi or whatever but stuff like the in/famous usa da scene is in every adaptation as well as the original. Adaptation wise frankly the anime is more understated than either the onikakushi manga or the audio drama

keep seeing this attitude lately where people underplay elements they don't like/consider "low brow" & go on to say other fans are wrong for remarking on them. Like higurashi is not just moe girls murdering eachother but that is in fact part of the fun why are we pretending it's not there.

im not a gatekeeper at all but still sick of people who only played ace attorney and danganronpa/hundred line and maaaybe like half of fata morgana before getting bored by the lack of gameplay position themselves as a vn understander.

Or I guess I just cannot relate because I have been told I sound foreign in my first language several times & feel most comfortable expressing myself in writing in my third language which I have a heavy accent in. I just don't see the point to obsess over it if you're consistently understandable.

my unfounded theory is that people getting really into jp pitch accent and sounding "native" and being defensive over it are p much exclusively previously monolingual english speakers & comes form a place of themselves looking down on esl speakers with accents

I saw this on tumblr a while back (though there a bunch of teens were arguing it was done because of fandom drama lol). While I am not familiar with these books it's hard to see it as something positive. "they didn't act like teens" is not a criticism to be taken seriously in a fantasy work.

one thing western manga releases have over jp is the omnibus releases like i really would prefer to have few big books over many little books.... I KNOW why it is the way it is and thick ones probably suck while reading but I prefer the look on my shelves.
