The Olympic break is giving the Edmonton Oilers a much-needed reset
Tensions are running high in Oil Country as the Edmonton Oilers often look helpless and discombobulated on the ice. No consistency in the roster, another list of offseason signings crashing and burning, and visible frustration from some of the players have made the 2025â26 season a true test in resiliency. Insiders in the hockey world are speculating wildly about what the team needs to do to improve its performance, which has largely beendisappointing all season.

Making a cap-compliant Team Canada for the 2026 Winter Olympics
With the Olympics underway, fans get to see best-on-best hockey for the first time in 12 years, and just the sixth time that NHL players have been able to participate in the games. As a best-on-best tournament, there is no salary cap here, allowing countries to have no restraint in building their teams beyond the number of players. One would think that being allowed that much freedom would make the process of choosing a team pretty easy, but if you are a country like Canada or the USA, you have a plethora of players to choose fromâany snubs are bound to get attention when the only criterion appears to be "are they good at hockey.â We know that many management teams have stated that they are building an actual team, not an all-star one, which is a philosophy that some people may not agree with (it's me, I'm people).

Who the Edmonton Oilers should make a âbig swingâ at
The 2025â26 season has been pretty up and down for the Edmonton Oilers. The bottom-six continues to be a formless void, the second defensive pairing isn't sorted out, and the goaltending has continued to be uneven, even after bringing in two new starters.

Over the last few weeks, there have been talks about potentially bringing back old Assistant Coach Paul Coffey to the Edmonton Oilers. Coffey ran the defence during his time here, which has now been designated to Mark Stuart, who still has his penalty kill duties. With the extra weight handed to him, along with the fact that Edmonton is running three coaches on the bench compared to the usual four, it seems like the team is having a hard time finding that cohesion and lacking details in parts of their game.

There is not much surprise here, but these narratives can help or hurt the cases for players.

Edmonton Oilers finally win three in a row, snatching 4-3 OT victory from the jaws of San Jose Sharks
