Got off my ass and did the last demo anim. Meaning that, aside from the music: all the polish is done. I still don't have a strong idea of a release date, because this is as much of a marketing thing as it is a "for fun" thing. Maybe I'll release a no-music ver to garner hype.

Something I like to do with my game is go a bit off-model. Either by mistake, or intentionally if a sketch looks charmingly odd. I think it lends the game a more "hand-drawn" feel. Like what you'd get in a manga.

Newest video finally reached 300 views. LISA one surpassed 500 a while ago and is still going strong. 64 subs at current. I'm glad I chose to do this shit, because even just a few eyes is a whole lot more than the nothing I would've had otherwise.

Devlog 3 was gonna be about Deus Ex's level design, but mid-editing I realized I had a lot more to say about the "micro goals" I brought up in last video. So I'm re-doing bits and pieces to be more about that instead. Here was the thumbnail draft for the old version.

Weekly update: Devlog 3 is underway. Probably dropping on August 25th. Hard to tell with the YouTube goings on. But I doubt I'm in deep enough for it to actually matter.

Playtesting livepost: I adjusted the balance of the 2nd boss to perfection. Stood up IRL after beating it, this shit is gonna rock. I also fixed a huge bug that stopped the party leader from being anyone but the protag during the all out attack. Which would've hurt mods/fangames

In the playtesting phase for Area 1. The gameplay engages, but it's hard to gauge how actually fun it all is cause I'm overly-familiar with it. This isn't a funny gag or a cool thing for me anymore. It's just "an enemy" and "an item drop." Cold, hard numbers.

Axing the deadline, I spent this week on stuff for Area 3. It was refreshing to get my head out of those blue-ass suburbs for a bit. I'm considering doing a lower effort "Devlog 2.5" this month for some extra traction, pushing the actual 3rd Devlog up to September.

Lack of traction on the 2nd devlog worries me. I banked on the LISA stuff to carry it. But there's little left I can do to market without selling out. Been doing cutscene work for the end of the dungeon. It's hard, but I hope it pays off. I like this note I wrote for it.

Down to 8 anims left for the demo. I tweaked some old visuals, like making the map screen more phone-like. I also smashed my pointer finger in the door, which has already put me out of dev for a day. I'm gonna try and continue work at a respectable pace despite this.

LISA Monster Update Brainrot

Last week was slow. It was the wrap up for a month of helping family move. I'm still recovering, it's hard for me to draw, and I've got sleep to catch up on. Noteworthy work was a functioning map for fast travel, just to replace the bland menu that LISA had. #rpgmaker #gamedev

Weekly Dev Update: Only 10 animations are left, and I've gotten most of the demo's dungeon layout done. First draft of the second devlog script is done, and I've edited some bits. But I'm not finalizing anything until I release it a month from now.

Weekly dev update: another animation down, and I've been sketching slides for the ending (way ahead of myself, bad idea). Look at the protag's design sketches. He's such an angry little man in every possible outcome.

Something that changed with the art is that I used to do smear frames as if the character was made of paint, dripping and splashing as they move. Now I just do this sort of generic smear effect, focusing only on the object in motion.

Ah! Belated dev update! Life is hectic at current, but I've made progress on a map later in the demo, and have finished 1.5 animations, bringing me to 12.5 left for the demo.

I'm doing a lot more than just water effects but I really like water. It gives off this strong sense of place and reminds me of nights I'd just be watching the waves go. Steely Dan is one of those "staring out at the water" bands.
