I ordered this Ryusen online as a small bare root stick in 2019. It lived in a pot for years until we finally moved and planted it onto the rock wall in the Japanese garden. This might be its best spring yet. 🌱

I love the early spring blooms on this spirea. 🌱 Interestingly enough, I had 3 of these planted: 2 purchased from the nursery and this 1, propagated from a robust one I had at my old house. The other 2 struggled & are definitively dead now. Shows the value of cloning plants that thrive for you.

One of the little things I picked up and sort of loved watching in The Bear was the ubiquitous “heard chef”. This is THE most perfect, concise acknowledgement of someone’s words. I would respectfully submit that all likes, loves and heart reactions on social media should be replaced by “Heard.”

Props to whomever on the #TaskMaster digital team who is uploading the outtakes so fast this season. They are pure gold. Lucy is insane in the best way.

As I’ve gotten more involved in gardening, I’ve gone down the rabbit hole of zone pushing (the concept of growing plants at the edge of your zone hardiness). I occasionally write about 🌱 things happening in the garden, and as the season is winding down here I picked a few of my favorite vegetables varieties:

And the first of the Satsumas ripened… it was tart and sweet and better than any store bought one could possibly be. Almost time to move into the greenhouse for winter. 🌱

First of the satsuma fruits 🌱🍊 are beginning to ripen. This, along with the key lime, will move into the greenhouse for the winter; it’s too cold here in 7a to overwinter outside. As long as we don’t get another brutal temperature drop like last year these will be very happy over the colder months.

Autumn inspection of the bees who are doing well and sipping on all the late summer wildflowers like goldenrod. 🌱

I love this time of year when summer shifts into fall and the light changes and the days get cooler and everything is faded but still beautiful and lazy and sun-soaked and you just want to squeeze in every minute you can outside.
