Day 14 of
#30DayMapChallenge
: OpenStreetMap 🗺️ I haven’t really explored OSM data before, but the level of detail in my area of interest was great. Here’s a quick map of places you can sit and read at the park. Built with
#rstats
and ggplot2 📍

I wanted more practice using OpenStreetMap data. Here is a hexagonal map of dining places in New York State, made in
#rstats
using OSM point-of-interest data.

#30DayMapChallenge Day 2: Lines. I wanted to make a quick map of my summer vacation using #rstats. I couldn’t get the arrows to display correctly, so that is still a work in progress. GitHub:

Trying to catch up on the
#30DayMapChallenge
Day 1: Points. Since it is almost ski season in the Northern Hemisphere, I wanted to find the top 10 ski resorts with the most significant vertical drop within 100 miles of Boston. I used data from
openskimap.org
and made the map in R using Leaflet.

Trying to get back into the
#tidytuesday
habit. Using visa data from the Henley Passport Index (2025-09-09) to see where I can go without a visa.

I am a bit late on this, but the show is really all about Homer. Speaking lines by character for seasons 21-26.

I learned how to ski a few years ago and like to keep track of where I have been. I am super excited to have found
openskimap.org
; so much map data is available! Now that I'm back from holiday break and have been looking for a new map project to start, I think some sort of ski map could be fun.

Fell a bit off the #AdventOfCode wagon, but trying to get back at it. I work almost exclusively with dataframes as inputs, this reminds me that there are other data structures. Completed “Print Queue” - Day 5

Just completed “Ceres Search” Day 4 of Advent of Code 2024. Part 1 was a breeze, boosting my confidence, but Part 2 fixed that. As usual, I was overthinking it. #Python #AdventOfCode

So, today, I learned about regex, which is not something that I have used before. I just completed “Mull It Over” - Day 3 - Advent of Code 2024 #AdventOfCode

I will eventually share answers on Github, but does anyone have a favorite resource to help with Python when you are coming from R? Ihttps://adventofcode.com/2024/day/2

Because I am a glutton for punishment, I’ve decided to give #AdventOfCode a try to practice my Python skills. I’ve completed “Historian Hysteria” - Day 1 -

The #30DayMapChallenge has wrapped up. I didn't complete every map, but I pushed my skills with mapping in #rstats and open-source #gis tools out of my comfort zone. My final map features shelters in Antarctica using a polar projection 😊

Catching up on the
#30DayMapChallenge
, so I’ll cover AI only (Day 9) and Map Projections (Day 26) with one set of maps. I used
Claude.ai
to write an R script to show different map projections - no edits from me! The results are a mixed bag!

I missed the polygon map from the #30DayMapChallenge, so I am circling back to find counties with campgrounds. Continuing to experiment with #duckdb and #rstats to query and present spatial data:

Day 7: Vintage Style
#30daymapchallenge
I used Esri's Modern Antique Map as the basemap. I searched for a table of Magellan's ports but found nothing, so I asked ChatGPT for a .csv with ports, dates, lat, and lon. Even after some formatting tweaks, I got a result quicker than doing it by hand!

I rarely have to use rasters at work, so I decided to try some image classification for Day 6: Raster. 🤨 I'll have to keep practicing.

Day 4 - Hexagons. My attempts to map with
#rstats
continue. I used the orca encounter data from Day 1 and plotted it against the H3 index to see if the best locations for seeing orcas changed annually.

- Lines. To keep it simpler today, I wanted to make a travel map highlighting some of my favorite trips with

. How it started vs How it's going... still needs a little work.
