It may be corny, but sitting on the back step, moon right inbetween two big trees, lightning bugs flashing all around, happy cat rubbing my legs, taking treats from my fingers, not hot, not cold, scent of flowers or even perfume in the air... Moments like those might be when I feel happiest.

In order to get Cinder to eat the food I put her pill in, I had to pretend to throw it away, then pretend to get new canned food, then present the food with the pill in it to her as if it was new food that I had just taken straight from the can. Then she ate it.

Today I'm pairing Chum (2026), which is kind of a Dangerous Animals (2025) rip-off, with Rippy aka The Red (2024), a killer zombie kangaroo movie.

Why is it that the only time a cat won't eat is when you need them to eat the pill you crushed up into their food?

I have really grown to absolutely loath common fireworks for the completely unnecessary terror they inflict on animals. Just had a lil guy that is as starved for love and attention as he is for food, from nally getting all three and loving it, get sent fleeing in terror from some jerk's fireworks.

I got to pet Asmodeus for the first time. It wasn't much, just lightly stroking the top of his head with the back of my fingers as he took a treat, but I got to do that like eight times without him freaking out or running away. So that's something. No picture. I didn't have my phone with me.

When I was a n the ER last night one guy came in with a bullet wound, another came in because a firework blew up in his face, and a third guy, clearly not in his right mind, was being discharged, danced all around the ER, and was escorted out by the police, where I question if he was safe. USA!

Bullitt, Vigo, and Cinder all lying equidistant from each other in the kitchen floor. Me: 😲 "...the Purrmuda Triangle!”

Aw. I had Asmodeus sitting on my steps while I was on the porch, six feet away. He was getting closer to eat the treats I was tossing him and he was grooming while sitting there and closing his eyes while looking toward me, signs of trust. Then some asshole blew off fireworks and sent him running. 😢

Started late, because I was very busy, so I picked a shark flick that wouldn't demand much attention, then something better for later... Bikini Shark (2025) and Primate (2025).

Skinny Boy is a love bug. I took him to the porch and showed him there was food. Instead of eating, he followed me back to the back step to sit for a bit.

Last night, taking out the trash, I heard a phone ringing. It was on the grass just off the sidewalk in front of the lot by my house. I thought, "Maybe that's whoever lost it calling to see who has their phone." I answered it. It was a guy who said that his brother must have dropped his phone. 1/

Today was shitty. Because of the shitty, I am a cranky, perturbed, agitated, grump ass right now. But I did see my first lightning bugs of the year tonight ... while it was actually really lightninging! So I guess that was cool.

I also don't know how Coyotes wasn't on my radar sooner. It's fun! Funny! Rich people versus ravenous coyotes. Love it. It's by the Grave Encounters guy and I am a Grave Encounters hater, but this ... I liked. This one is not streaming anywhere for free. It's on Philo, Fubo, and MGM+ w/subscription.

Frenzy's better than average for a shark movie, but that average isn't great. It takes itself seriously, which I like, and it's very pretty, not bargain basement. The cgi is bad, but 2018 bad cgi's better than modern bad cgi. I'm surprised I hadn't seen this. It totally slipped by me. It's on Tubi.

Doing my thing this year of pairing one shark movie with one non-shark killer animal movie with Frenzy (2018) aka Surrounded and Coyotes (2025) starring Justin Long and Kate Bosworth.

Just saw a possum. It walked right in my front gate and down my side walk by my porch. I pspsp'd and it stopped, looked over it's shoulder at me for a second, then scurried on before I could try to offer it a greenie treat. Today fucking rules.

Tonight's movies are Shark (1969) aka Maneater starring Burt Reynolds, which famously and falsely claimed to contain a scene of a stunt man dying to a shark attack. Then a non-shark killer animal flick, Anaconda (2025). I got my shark fruit snacks and a pouch of Sharkleberry Fin. Let's go!

Gardening would be a lot easier without all this stupid kidney pain.

"Did this tube of super glue even open? Let me give it a little squeeze to see if anything comes out. Ooop! Well, look at that. I no longer have individual fingers on my left hand, it's just one hellish flesh mitten now. I love super glue!"

I actually only watched all three, because after the first one, I knew I had to either watch the other two right now or never at all. There would never be a point in my life where I'd be like, "You know, I'm finally in the mood to finish the Lone Star Shark movies."

I'll give each 33.33% of a star, totaling about one lone star for the trilogy, mostly because I liked that they used a real fake shark part of the time (not all cgi) and it was amusing when the shitty fake shark's "skin" would sometimes crumple up like a garbage bag painted to look shark-like.

Watched the Lone Star Shark trilogy (2025). They're all about an hour each. Free on Xumo. Plot: they're a combination of Hostel and Cabin in the Woods with a shark in a lake, only even stupider than that sounds. Quality: they're on the level of Graveyard Shark or Cocaine Shark, but without the fun.

I leaned over too far, too quickly, to give top of the head kisses to a cat lying on the back of the couch and I hurt my back. 😅

Killer Whale (2026) was good, too! Like The Shallows with an orca. It had some issues and a few instances of sketchy CGI, but the bad CGI was still better than most bad CGI from these types of movies. It only stood out, because the rest of the movie was so well done. Two winners tonight.

Thrash (2026) is great fun! I'd put it on par with Crawl (2019), the similar alligator movie. Some of it is super far fetched, of course, but very entertaining. And I loved the genius idea of them showing a meat truck get cracked in half to chum the flood waters. Perfect!

Double feature tonight of Tommy Wirkola's (Dead Snow, Violent Night) new shark flick Thrash(2026), followed by Killer Whale (2026).

With hospital stays and whatnot, I'm starting my shark viewing later than usual this year, but I have a juice pouch of Sharkleberry Fin and a pack of Gummy Frogs (couldn't find sharks or octopusses--frogs still live in water) and I'm starting Shark Movie Season with Beast of War (2025) on Shudder.

Nightmare?

Dreamt I was walking naked on W 25th with a handful of quarters, doing an impression of Werner Herzog as I talked on the phone about an interview where he said, "I AM film. I AM genre. But this is ART. I watch this and I feel that everything I've done is shit," about the movies of Stephen Sommers.

Anyone else watched Widow's Bay? I'm only 3 EPS in so far, but I'm enjoying it a lot.

Apparently, while I was in the hospital, Cinder was walking all over the house meowing and presumed to be looking for me.

I filled out a mental health questionnaire today. It was like, "How many days in the past 2 weeks have you..." and the answer options were: zero, several, half, and everyday. How do you jump from zero to several?! Where is once or twice? None of these answers feel accurate.

I was prob 11 or 12 or so and already frequently staying up all night. Now I'm sitting out here in the dark 35 years or so later, enjoying the quiet, the breeze, the nocturnal critters, the lack of people with their yapping, drama, and noise for the sake of noise, still rolling my eyes at that dude.

One time, I went to church (maybe hard for some of you to believe, but I was young, it was an evening youth service, they had pizza--I did it for the za) and this pastor dude was talking to us and saying some shit about nighttime being bad and something like, "The dark is for thieves and villains."

I am forever moving in long zigzags to keep my face in the shadow of telephone poles.

I've carried a lot of things home on my bike: pumpkins, computers, Christmas trees, chairs, electric heaters... But today was the first time carrying long handled garden tools. I'll tell ya, when you're riding your bike by an obvious asshole and you have a shovel in your hand... that urge is strong.

Earlier today, I saw someone online say, "You sound like you're vaccinated," as an attempted insult. (Actually they said, "Your vaccinated.") I think the Internet is too dangerous a place for people so aggressively stupid that they think that that would be an insult.

There's a pile of old wood overgrown with weeds in the lot next door. There's a big, fat, waddling groundhog that lives somewhere around that wood pile. It's been very active today. Seen it a few times. Haven't gotten a picture though. But I can be very patient and I know where it lives. Soon.

I got the cats new scratch pads, but they aren't scratching at them. So I propped one up at the window where Cinder is and started scratching at it, as an example. Then I saw a couple walking down my street, staring in my window at the large, fluffy, human man scratching at a scratch pad like a cat.

As a lifelong monster-lovin', horror hound, October Kid, there's something special to me that part of my routine every night before bed is to take a brush and scrape clean all my exposed face bones.

There's people on the porch of the burned, condemned, empty house across the street. People are always there. Reminds me of Fran in Dawn of the Dead asking why the zombies come to the mall and Fly Boy saying, "...instinct. Memory of what they used to do. This was an important place in their lives."

Took a nap this afternoon and in my dream, Lloyd Kaufman rode by me on a bike. He was wearing bike shorts and a helmet. I was like, "Hey, Lloyd." That dude will cameo in anything.
