Well done to Thea, who got a silver medal at the Northumberland and Durham Synchro competition in the individual category and a gold and a silver medal with her team. We are very proud!

Well done Y8! You've had a successful first work experience day completing a challenge linked to Health and Social care. Other activities in our first careers week include a presentation for Y11 about sixth form at Whickham school and a visit to a Public Sectors careers fair for some of Y10.

In recognition of remembrance 2025 Logan in Year 8 proudly took part in his remembrance parade with his RAF Air Cadets on Sunday.

Good Luck to former student Callum who is will be representing England in Croatia in the 2025 ITF Taekwon-Do World Championships.

We are very proud of Charlotte, who took part in a talent showcase at the weekend to display her aerial skills. Well Done Charlotte!

We are so proud of Bobby who completed the Yorkshire 3 peaks (over 25 miles) for charity as part of TEAM BETTY. They raised over £1000 for the Lily Foundation. Bobby and his cousin Oliver were amazing and never complained, despite the horrendous weather. Well done boys!

Year 10 Business and iMedia students had a fantastic opportunity to go to Northumbria Water's Work Experience Festival. They engaged in workshops, tackled real-world challenges and met industry professionals. The organisers made a point of celebrating the creativity and teamwork of the group.

Careers week continues with more 1:1 personal guidance for Y8, 9 and 10. Gateshead College spoke with Y9 and Y10 about pathways available post 16, explaining the importance of good GCSE grades to progress towards our dream careers. Well done everyone. Great focus and ambition.

This July and August, students at Tanfield have been invited to take part in a National Read-Aloud Challenge. They will have the opportunity to win prizes at a school and national level. We look forward to seeing Tanfield students on the National Read-Aloud Challenge Leaderboard!

Year 6 Transition was a huge success last week. We are looking forward to welcoming students in September as official TeamTanfield members! Year 6 can find more photos on the Transition Hub!

Cycle 3 Careers week has begun! Year 9 had a presentation on Higher Education and a talk on Pharma North. Year 7 heard about Sustainability in North East Growth Sectors and Year 8, about Advanced Manufacturing. Year 10 heard about Energy Innovation and had a presentation from Durham Sixth Form.

Our Duke of Edinburgh training expedition was completed brilliantly! Well done everyone. You're now ready for your assessed expedition next week. We can't wait to see your success!

The Year 11s celebrated the end of their time with us at Lumley Castle. The sun came out and was almost as dazzling as the outfits. They ate, danced and laughed the night away. We hope they enjoy their break and look forward to seeing you all in August.

Congratulations to Huey L, Dan C, Charlie B and Charlie G who have represented the school for Chester Le Street, Washington and Derwentside District School football team. The team won the U13 AF County Cup trophy after Huey scored the winning penalty against South West Northumberland.

We’re delighted that we have been recognised not once, but twice in this year’s FFT National Attendance Awards, for excellent attendance and our school has stood out in both the autumn and spring terms of 2024/25. Thank you all for your help in achieving this. #FFTNationalAttendanceAwards

Congratulations to our Y9 fashion designers taking part in the TICE (This is Creative Enterprise) programme. They are making incredible progress on their portfolios and have had masterclasses from industry experts and a visit to Northumbria University. They are enjoying this careers opportunity.

Y9 students had the incredible opportunity to visit Teleperformance in Gateshead. This workplace has become a key partner for us in our careers provision. They showed students around and led workshops and challenges to develop employability skills and gave an insight into a range of roles.

Today, we welcomed back former student Isabelle. She left us three years ago with grades 8 and 9 across the board to study A Levels at Durham Sixth Form. Now, she is completing a Higher Apprenticeship in Law in London, with the firm Wedlake Bell.

We would like to congratulate our Y8 Girls Futsal team who recently competed at the Beacon of Light in the County Championships. The girls came runners up in the competition. They are the first girls team in Tanfield School history to get this far 👏🏻 ⚽️ #TeamTanfield
