My December mental hibernation has just been playing Marvel Rivals and shitposting on Twitter lmao

End of year mental hibernation. Always feels like I should be making myself do more but this time I am just going to relax through December.

The interesting thing about interacting with overthinkers is learning how much thought is required to figure out how to think less. Very observant people who see a lot of variables and constants which demands a really good process for simplifying things down to usable formulas or they struggle.

FG players often think they "can't adapt fast enough in FT2" and that they need to fix their pattern recognition when the issue is that their layer 1 gameplay is just not setting them up to see any digestible or important patterns from the opponent.

I think one of the best optimizations I've made in my fighting game learning process is determining if it's a game where I'm primarily meant to either: A) Do mean stuff and adjust it as the opponent's counters B) Keep it solid until I see the opportunities to do mean stuff

Typically, the answer is getting better at paying attention to context. Making reads is all about looking at the information in front of you and coming to a conclusion. A lot of the times people believe they're bad at coming to conclusions but the prob is they aren't aware of enough information.

Another common theme in recent coaching sessions is explaining the concept of "situations as reward" in fighting games. Stuff like understanding when it's smarter to do something that does 0 damage but puts you in a better position instead of that 14 dmg low poke that resets momentum.

There's a certain type of player I keep seeing when coaching (Tekken God-God of Destruction) where the only problem they have is hesitating before every decision. Like if they kept every single decision the same...but didn't pause before making it, then they'd be a top level player.

You feel an abnormal amount of pride when you refund a Steam game before everyone else realizes it's bad
