A unique mix of romance & speculative fiction. The FMC can see ghosts and her job is to help them move on. But what happens when she sees a man she is interested in as a ghost? If you fall in love with a ghost, how would that ever work? This is my first book by Poston, and I’m a fan.

Gothic atmosphere, a mansion full of devils where people play dangerous games - what’s not to like? But some things confused me - I was unsure of the year. I was confused about the rules of Phantasma. The romance was spicy, but some of it was oddly placed. I’ll still read the next one.

I enjoyed this story. It was a quick read but was quite predictable. The end was wrapped up quickly compared to the build up throughout the story. Overall, this was a suspenseful commentary on how uninvolved parents can miss important parts of their children’s lives.

This was an amazing story about the AIDS crisis in the ‘80s and ‘90s, mostly set in Chicago. I remember growing up hearing the religious groups blaming gays for the crisis and claiming AIDS as God’s judgment. I wish the story would’ve stayed in 1985-1990. 1/2

This one hit different. It was Hartmann’s usual: catch feelings, giving into feelings, can’t be together, take YEARS apart, & finally come together. The epilogue marked 30 yrs, and I was tired of it by this point. It was spicy, but was overly sentimental with cheesy, romantic one-liners.

Passing a budget is nothing new. It has to happen every year, so what the fuck do they do all year? Oh I know - figure out how to line their pockets while blaming everyone on the other side of the aisle. We play the blame game here in America instead of requiring Congress to do their fucking job!

I haven’t been saying much lately. I’ve had to take a break for my mental health. This last Friday was the 3rd missed paycheck due to the shutdown. Then last night I watched the Dems cave. What was it all for? We’re worse off now than if you would’ve just given in at the beginning.

I want everyone to know that I’d happily give my money to fund anyone’s SNAP. If anyone is abusing spending, it’s our government - not the people who get SNAP benefits. Why would you weaponize food anyway? In other news, my family is coming up on the third skipped payday because of the shutdown. 😡

I expected astrology & talking cats. I didn’t expect an interesting premise could be so boring. The book was full of tired platitudes. Everything each person did after visiting the cafe turned out perfect - success in career & love. I checked out my birth chart while reading, so 2 stars.

This book took me by surprise. I was ready for a horror story about Chinese Hungry Ghosts. This weaves Chinese folklore with Asian hate crimes that occurred at the beginning of the pandemic. Cora experiences all the pain of racism & Asian hate while also dealing with demons. I loved it!

Describing this as a story about a ghost in a bookstore is misleading. A bookstore ghost is a small, but the story isn’t centered on it. There were parts of this that were good & others that were boring. I almost DNF’d twice. I am glad I finished, but altogether, this is a 3 star.

The idea of this book was great, but the execution was amateurish. I could not connect with the characters. Everything seemed manufactured to be an easy fix without any real stakes involved. It was a bit boring - except for Bandit. The cat gets two stars!

While I didn’t agree with everything in this book, as a student in an MFA program, I learned so much! This is an excellent book for anyone wanting to learn more about novel writing and/or screenwriting.

I’m not sure if it’s the storyline or the fact that this is a translation, but I did not enjoy this book at all. The different POVs are odd and the misogyny (even though I realize it’s cultural) was almost unbearable. Nobel Prize? No thanks.

Well I’ve talked a lot about politics and Taylor Swift. Back to books! I don’t read many YA books ever, but I enjoy Emily Henry’s writing. So I gave it a try and actually enjoyed it. It’s definitely the PG-13 version of Thelma & Louise. Easy and quick read. Not bad at all!

So, Taylor switching from country to pop - bad idea. She wrote about high school: childish. She wrote about adult relationships: uncool. Then she was too edgy: kids listen to her after all. Then she did too much storytelling, was too depressed. Now she’s too damn happy?

This one has an interesting second storyline along with the main romance. Two writers are “competing” to write an aging starlet’s memoir. So many secrets are uncovered - just an overall great read.

Let’s be real. The Reps have a majority in the House & Senate. But they can’t pass the budget. They have 53 seats - 60 are needed to pass it. My husband goes to work tomorrow & won’t get paid until all of Congress gets their heads out of their own asses. You know who still gets paid though? CONGRESS

It’s a monstrous idea to say that suffering brings people closer to God & God is testing us when he allows bad things into our lives to prove our faith. Romanticizing suffering provides an excuse to not help others. People hide behind toxic Christianity to justify & even rejoice when others suffer.

I absolutely love reading Emily Henry. This is a friends to lovers - forced proximity - watch each other in relationships - secretly in love - refuse to admit it - kind of romance. Oh - and they take an annual vacation with each other! What could possibly be keeping them apart?! Love it!

I was pleasantly surprised with this 2nd book. It’s not as good as The Plot, but it wasn’t a waste of time. It’s nice to see the villain get away every now & then. I really enjoyed how each chapter was the title of the sequel to a popular 1st book. That type of ingenuity tickles me.

I’m so over the hero worship of Charlie Kirk. I’m over these big companies bowing to fascism. I’m over Americans putting their heads in the sand and pretending that what is happening isn’t really happening. I’m just one person living in a fucking red state who is tired of the bullshit.

The Plot is about an author who writes a book with an unusual storyline. As a reader, you get to read excerpts from the main character's book as well as read the story as it happens in the book itself. It's a bit meta but was quite interesting. I immediately picked it up the next book.

I enjoyed this, but some parts were too hard to believe (even for thriller/mystery). The MFC was also super annoying. I don’t have to always like the MC & their POV, but I think I was supposed to, & I didn’t. The atmosphere was enjoyable, & up to the end, I was invested in the weirdness.

I realize a memoir’s natural state is the “unreliable narrator,” but I’d believe that this is a true account of what it was like to work at Facebook. Wynn-Williams does a brilliant job of breaking down just what her role was at Facebook & how she gave up on any good Facebook could’ve done

We like to think bad things happen “away” from us, but don’t. Last night it was my family’s turn when my oldest (a middle school band teacher) was at a high school football game where a student was shot. My son is safe and got other students to safety. He’s my hero. Enough bullshit.

Hear me clearly: Charlie Kirk is not a victim or a martyr. He is a result of his own worldview. Period. Don’t try to show empathy to him now when all he peddled was hateful and violent rhetoric. Enough bullshit.

And I just want to put this here: “I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational.” - Charlie Kirk (4/5/2023)

I liked this, but the writing kept pulling me out of the story. Sometimes it was a missing word or the wrong word. Sometimes descriptions were off - she’s standing over him but she looks UP at him. The FMC is Tamryn but for one page, she was Tamyra. I just couldn’t stay in the story.

I love books where a group of people get together in the middle of nowhere & start sharing horrible secrets & get revenge. This one seemed like that about the first 60%. Then it just went downhill fast - I mean there was even a villain monologue. Ugh I wanted to like this, but it was meh.

While this one isn’t as good as Still Beating, I enjoyed this age-gap romance. There were a few parts where I felt like the dialogue was awkward, but other than that, it was a good read.

This is my third Emily Henry book, and I loved it! Normally, I would say I’m not a romance girly because the HEA is always guaranteed. And I want to be surprised! But even though you know there’s an HEA, the story is so satisfying. Highly recommend!

While the story wasn’t too surprising after a couple twists in the plot, it was still enjoyable to read. Everything didn’t go back to normal at the end like some 90s sitcom. If you like stories where everyone is lying to someone, & you’re not sure who to trust - this is one for you.
