Thanks to everyone who made Plano’s Point-in-Time homeless census possible last night. Our team walked the area around our Plano office w/Neighborhood Police, completed surveys and delivered care packs. Many people we met told us they are actively looking for work, stability and a path forward.

Today I’m thinking of Roe v. Wade, the decision that began as a case out of Dallas County, Texas. For decades, Roe stood for a simple principle. When a pregnancy goes wrong, the person who is pregnant and doctor in the room should be able to make urgent decisions without fear, delay, or politics.

Neighbors heads up for the weekend. Forecasts show a big freeze with wintry weather Friday through Sunday, including sleet, freezing rain and slick surfaces. Quick prep list: Protect outdoor faucets and know where your water shutoff is.  Charge devices, check flashlights, and refill any meds.

Yesterday we walked in the Collin County MLK Day Parade and I’m still smiling. Our Team Plesa volunteers showed up with the best attitude and made it fun for families along the route. I’m so grateful for them.

MLK Day is a reminder that history happened right here in Texas. Jan 5, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. came to Dallas to speak at the Music Hall at Fair Park. More than 2,500 people attended. Outside, bomb scares and protesters tried to disrupt the event.
