A small laugh escaped her, accompanied by a subtle look of concern. “Your reaction is telling me you’ve already overheard them say some things they probably shouldn’t have.”

“He did? Well, it’s nice to hear that he finally got to try one! Um, I not so sure how I feel about eating something that’s been through the vents. People and. . other things like to crawl through there.”

“I’d really rather you didn’t scare them either!”

“Sandwich. . .? I’m somehow not surprised that yet another person has tried to bring me food.” 💧 A sandwich from their pocket? That’s been inside their vent system?! She feels like she’d be justified in not wanting this one.

“I’ll definitely try to remind them of that! I really hope that they haven’t caused you any trouble. I feel like a lot of them have been on a bit of a mischievous streak lately. .”

“You do?! Well, if it has even half the amount of malice that bird had then I’m sure it’s a handful. .” Ciel unscrews the vent cover and pops it off, stepping down from the ladder to let the other exit.

“N-No! It’s nothing like that! I previously had a run in with a particularly hostile mechanical bird. .”

“Please don’t make a habit of it. I really thought you were that bird. .” She shudders at the thought of it. Luckily for the both of them, there were plenty of tools available in her room to unscrew the vent! “Just a moment, I’ll help you out of there. .” She grabs a step ladder and pushes it

“I still- Oh.” Ciel lets out a sigh of relief. “What are you doing up there? How. . and why? If you had something to give there’s much easier ways to reach me than the vents.”

. . . . On second thought, she wasn’t really sure if she wanted them to get out of the vent. “Maybe you should just. . . try crawling back the way that you came!” And maybe she should alert Zero or someone else about a visitor in the vents.

?! Okay, definitely wasn’t the bird! That was a relief at least. The voice coming from the vent certainly didn’t make her feel any more at ease though. Or give her any desire to get closer to it. “You should really get out of there, you could get hurt. . .!” Ciel doesn’t move from her spot.

At first, Ciel isn’t too worried about the noise from the vents. If some sort of animal found its way in there it could probably make its way out on its own! Then she recalls an incident with a certain robotic bird. Ciel stands up from her desk and eyes the vent cautiously.
