I'm so close to switching the cast shadows from the naive three draw calls per light (occlusion per light-> shadow map -> merged shadows) to three draw calls per frame (occlusion for the entire screen once, up to n lights batched, merged shadows batched).

Using Macroquad's sound, I can't check if a sound has ended, since everything is one-way messages to the audio thread or the browser. To queue up music, I manually enter how long a track is in seconds, and when that time has passed, I start the next track.

Projectiles now melt in lava. Ice turns into water, which immediately becomes steam, while other materials like stone become lava themselves. Projectiles can also float or sink in liquids with the same rules as the map simulation.

Fluids now affect projectile velocity.

I was messing around with the map generation and accidentally had part of the iron separation layer come through to the surface in an arc, which gave me the idea to write a small function that generates iron gears.

Trying something.

Added honey and acid for fun (and because I needed to generalize the fluid checks).

Yesterday I thought it would be a good idea to rewrite all of the player physics, a working system that already feels good. Halfway through I realized I also had to deal with all the edge cases that were already handled, so I quickly reverted everything.

Added normals to the player-placed background today. Still pretty basic, but maybe it'll motivate me to work more on that decoration aspect.

Updated look for the dispenser. I draw this in multiple layers, with a little projectile sprite inside that is offset by the internal progress percentage, so it looks like the projectile is actually coming from somewhere.

Revamped the game progression a bit today. Previously, you had the reach the bottom of the map before you had access to the mining drill at all, so you would mine everything before that manually. Now, you get it as soon as you have steel, and you can progressively upgrade it to get more from nodes.

Fancier block placing.

I added a very basic enemy respawn system. Mushrooms just spawn in a radius around the player every ten seconds for now. Enemies that are stuck get moved up automatically now as well, which makes them a bit of a menace when they spawn underground.
