Yesterday, areas just north of Washington DC saw damaging flash floods as 3-4" of rainfall fell extraordinarily fast across much of the area. Many of the rainfall totals recorded in the image below accumulated in less than an hour. Numerous roads were flooded and/or washed out due to this event.

Are you an early riser or night owl that might have recalled seeing bright wispy clouds on the horizon recently? These are #noctilucent clouds! They are visible in the summer months during astronomical twilight and are made of ice crystals that are suspended high up in the atmosphere.

A widespread #heat wave is likely to occur beginning next week across most areas along and east of the Rockies as a ridge builds over the area. 🔥 On the edge of this heat dome, this may bring strong to severe thunderstorms from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic regions. ⛈️
