"well, after all the ordeals we've suffered at the hands of that festival, i'm surprised i don't see more of us drinking." he pours himself a glass and places the cork back in the bottle partially. "...not that many of us survived, of course. hm." he does his best not to dwell. some days, well...

he doesn't react per se, though pointedly he seems to avoid her gaze as he searches for a corkscrew. "mm, let's just say that i've certainly had my own odd day." he finds the tool he needs and sets it down, pushing one glass towards her. "...you don't mind if i drink with you, do you?"

"hah, i suppose more of the same on my front as well." he stands, carrying a bottle in his hands, a valland rioja dated 1929. "we do what we can... at least, until we find a way out of this mess, wherever that is..." he places the bottle down and reaches beneath again to produce two wine glasses.

"—hm, perhaps..." he glances back behind him at the cabinets. "might have a vintage from valland here or there..." he places the glass in his hands beneath the counter and kneels as he checks a wine rack in the lower cabinets. "...how are you holding up?" he asks as he searches, "feeling okay?"

"—ah, eve." his eye catches the movement, and he nods to her. he wanders over, shining a glass like a typical bartender. it's become a reflex to do so whenever he takes shelter here. "it's certainly as quiet as it can get amidst the apocalypse. what shall it be, hm? or, will words do just fine?"
