Texas Republicans called two special sessions this summer. First, they forced through newly rigged congressional maps. Then, they made it harder for people to register to vote. Their attacks on our democracy are intentional and strategic.

For decades, GOP leadership has failed Mississippi, which faces one of the worst health care and poverty crises in America. We need strong Democratic voices in Jackson who will fight for the people. And thanks to a new map, we have a chance to gain some seats.

Make no mistake: This fight won’t end with just Texas and Missouri. As Democrats keep all options open to build state legislative power, to ultimately achieve redistricting parity, we must win more Democratic majorities in battleground states.

Here’s the bottom line: Republicans’ MAGA agenda is unpopular with Americans, and the GOP knows it. That’s why they’re desperately trying to undermine democracy with their redistricting schemes to keep themselves in power. We can’t let it happen.
