Volunteers' Week Day 5: From school visits and family workshops to Roman soldiers and craft activities, we have a busy programme and we’re lucky to have some fantastic volunteers who support these sessions, helping to bring history to life and inspiring our younger visitors to get creative. 🎨

Volunteers' Week Day 4: Over the past 12 months, our collections volunteers have been involved in documenting and photographing objects from the map, local history, Salaman and archaeology collections. We're also grateful to have volunteers taking part in the ‘deep clean’ of our museum spaces.

Volunteers' Week 3: Our volunteers were at the heart of A Growing City 🌱 From the original idea to research and handmade displays, volunteers helped shape the exhibition at every stage. Look out for the paper orchids, woolly cucumbers and crocheted tomatoes made by our volunteers. 💛 #volunteersweek

Volunteers’ Week day 2: We’re continuing to share the stories behind the work of our volunteers. Over the past year, they’ve taken part in two digs at the Rose and Crown site. 14 volunteers helped excavate test pits last summer, growing to 42 this year - from welcoming schools to washing finds.

This powerful mosaic shows a lion dragging off a stag it’s slain. The lion’s tail has been cropped by the right edge of the mosaic, which may mean the hunting centrepiece was commissioned & made elsewhere, & then cut to size to fit in a pre-planned design 🕰️c180AD 🏛️Verulanium Museum 📷me #MosaicMonday
