I don’t normally blow my own trumpet on social media, but standby for a blast. Sam’s Song was published in 2014. The book has never been out of the mystery top fifty, and today it’s at number three. Sam stands for the fight against abuse, in all its forms. I’m delighted that she continues to win.

6 April 1788, St Luke‘s, Finsbury. The burial of my ancestor Edward Beadle - a man. He died of “age”. He was 62.

Good people of Bluesky Can you identify my ancestor Joseph Beadle’s profession. He is listed with his daughter Maria, second from bottom. Date: 1792.

Wednesday 4 March 1964 A survey in Barnsley, Yorkshire revealed that the Chinese restaurants offered the best value for money and best food. Mr Tom Davison, leader of the survey, said, “The Chinese do English roast lamb and roast pork better than the English restaurants.”

I’ve traced my Howe ancestors of St Hilary, Glamorgan back to the mid-1600s, when the records run out. My ancestors owned land in the village, and Howe Mill, which is still standing. The Vikings were in the area in the 900s, and a family connection is likely. Here’s a timeless picture of St Hilary.

Tuesday 3 March 1964 Dr Bernhard Bohne, the man wanted for allegedly leading Hitler’s “mercy killing” programme, has been arrested in Buenos Aires. Bohne is said to be responsible for the deaths of 15,000 people.
