I don’t like the “Mario Galaxy 1+2 is $70 bc of 4K resolution & mouse feature”. Switch 2 was marketed to already have these features, so paying for a game to have those features feels circular. A more earnest response to price increases is inflation, tariffs, UI & QOL updates, music player, etc.

Just finished Act 3 of Hollow Knight: Silksong. What I appreciate about Team Cherry is their willingness to give you a hard time. You fight, you lose, you learn, you adapt, you win. Beautiful game. I had a lot of fun with it.

I’ll give you an example of how consumers are different. Person A: Owns Mario 3D All Stars. Will only buy Galaxy 2. Logic: I save $40. $60 (3D) + $40 (G2) Person B: Grew up with Wii. Already owns 3D All Stars but deems upgrades worth the bundle of $70. Logic: Extra $35 for better experience

The last price for Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii U was $9.99. The most recent price on the Switch 2 is $39.99. At face value, people can just say, “$9.99 is what Mario Galaxy 2 should be worth” Not necessarily. It’s pretty subjective. Prices fluctuate based on consumer demand & willingness to pay*

I think the only thing I didn’t like is how normalized DLC has become. I remember buying full games as a kid and not having to pay an additional 30% for content. DK Bananza being $20, the inconsistency when it comes Switch 2 editions. I can only imagine how much Mario Wonder will be.

The Nintendo Direct opening up with the sequel to their Mario Movie showcases one of Nintendo’s new priorities. The first movie did really well, critically and financially. If the second does too, I think we will be entering an era where gaming adaptions dominate similar to the superhero genre.

I think the difficult curve is felt a lot during the early stages. Once you get about 2 extra masks and some abilities, it does start to feel better. I also see some people playing online who don’t use their attack items or invest in rosarie chains. Being strategic and aware helps.
