The new Agriculture album shows off incredible diversity and depth of sound. Among the most interesting modern post-black metal bands. We are now seeing very clearly that post-black is its own genre no longer tethered to black metal. Deafheaven seems to have really amped up this trend.

The new Lorna Shore feels important to me. I know a lot of people thought they were reaching their peak on Pain Remains, but I feel like “I Feel the Everblack…” is a landmark accomplishment for Deathcore. It’s reaching at the absolute best of what this subgenre can be. It’s so good.

Only because Labonte is a shithead was it always funny to read comments on All That Remains posts about new music. Every comment for awhile was either - This sucks because it’s not exactly like your material on The Fall of Ideals This sucks because it’s the same as Fall of Ideals but worse

Now that I’m a dad who lives in America I think about Sandy Hook and Uvalde way more than I ever wanted to. Sometimes I have legitimate panic over whether I should be trying to move my family out of this country. If that happened to my kid I wouldn’t be able to go on.

Being an adolescent fan of entry level hard rock and metal in the late 90s/ early aughts was wild. I started out liking alternative, then into nu metal, then added warped tour bands and post-hardcore along with 2nd wave metalcore and also some straight up metal sprinkled here and there. The band Astronoid has not received nearly enough credit in my estimation. Any time there’s a band that is awesome and also sounds unique in our over saturated world of metal music it’s worth some consideration.

It should legitimately be a crime to wear too much cologne or perfume into an indoor venue.

I hope my mind is changed eventually but for now this is the most forgettable Between the Buried and Me album I’ve heard. Maybe I’m not in the right mood for it but it just isn’t grabbing me at all. Big letdown after Colors 2 which imo is one of their best.

Assemble the Chariots is definitely among the best Deathcore bands I’ve encountered. Feels like Deathcore is kind of split two ways now - 1. The race to see who can just sound the downright nastiest 2. Who can sound the most progressive Assemble the chariots definitely in the latter category

No offense to any cool people who like Slaughter to Prevail but I feel like they’ve supplanted Five Finger Death Punch as the most popular band of the type of metal head that I dislike.

This new album by progressive djent band Ihlo is phenomenal. First djent album in years that made me feel strongly. FFO Periphery, Tesseract, Skyharbor

It’s really a shame that Conducting From the Grave broke up after only 3 albums. Some of the absolute best 2010 era melodeath/deathcore. Those 3 albums really stand the test of time.

I’ve been going to the gym a lot and I remember in my 20s being like why are all these old guys just walking around with their balls out. And now that I’m 40 I get it. I just don’t give AF anymore who sees my balls and I am now old guy with balls out

I have a weird need to have listened to every metal album ever made even though I know that’s not possible. Anyone else kind of feel like you just don’t have time to absorb all the music you want to?

The new Blackbriar album is hauntingly beautiful which is par for the course for them. They basically can do no wrong from my perspective they sound so different from all other bands and their production is done with extreme care and it shows.

New Burning Witches album is worth a look for people who like some throwback riffage with a modern edge. Power / trad with a touch of old school thrash.

Give me your rec for either an incredibly fun or incredibly epic power metal, trad metal, or doom metal (not funeral doom though) album. #metalsky

New Halestorm album is really good! Trying some things that are a little out of their comfort zone and it’s working for them imo.

Another example of the metal archives being shit: Thin Lizzy apparently heavy metal Halestorm not though. You can’t actually explain this discrepancy other than older band was heavy for its time. But they claim to go based on strict lines when they exclude like Slipknot.

I’m pretty sure I have the best Sleep Token opinion: They seem to be pretty good Hating on them for being derivative or too mainstream is dumb That said, they aren’t for me, but if other people like them I’m not going to give them shit for it. Let people enjoy the things they like man.

I want to admit something that is a bit shameful but true in case it helps anyone else: Having children has made me less happy and more anxious. I love my children more than anything. I try hard to be a good dad to them and I think I succeed. That doesn’t mean I’m personally happier.
