Authoritarianism can only succeed when democracy fails to deliver for working people. Authoritarian parties can only succeed when the pro-democracy parties fail to fight for working people. We need a new democracy and a new party system which can represent working people.

This should be the mantra of the Democratic Party going forward. I even made it into a simple graphic.

But the way this works is they align on a plan, and then they assign members who are not up for reelection to take the heat. I wouldn't be fooled by the individual votes - that's not how these things work.
