Nice to be quotes in this piece: "God’s love for people and God’s call to love others resonates especially with students who are looking for meaning in life while also experiencing a sense of loneliness."

Honored to give the 2026 Bernadette O’Connor Lecture at UIW this week. The question: Does Catholic education make a difference? Yes! From national data and graduate stories: it shapes meaning, ethics, community, work, and even how students approach AI.

If you only focus on financial outcomes (which are real and important), you miss all the things colleges do for students, including those who don't come from the upper class.

I think this makes doing theology in the broader public difficult. No matter what you say, it seems like you are advocating for one party or another. Instead of just talking about the gospel and its demands on our lives.

Working on my book about Catholic higher education. Turns out research suggests that cuts—tuition, programs, core, faculty— don't save colleges. They may give a short-term boost but often make things worse long-term. Cuts frame education economically and make the college look like a discount store.
