Working on my book about Catholic higher education. Turns out research suggests that cuts—tuition, programs, core, faculty— don't save colleges. They may give a short-term boost but often make things worse long-term. Cuts frame education economically and make the college look like a discount store.

I miss old Twitter. Like so many tech companies, it now tells you to conform to the machine/algorithm rather than figuring out how the machine/algorithm can help you.

Higher education is changing, but the responses to the change too often make it worse.

Sometimes saying get off your phones or social media is elitist. You have to have a certain status to be free to ignore what's going on around you. (It is also true that I need to put my phone down more.)

I moved across the country last year. Moving here to @bsky.app is a lot easier. Happy to be in the new neighborhood.
