Played a bit of Harold Halibut yesterday. Had the first genuine moment in years where I was stunned by a game's graphics. The stopmotion style just shortcircuited my brain as I tried to figure out how they did it. I've never witnessed something so tactile and real in a game before.

Feeling conflicted about this. Post-timeskip has really soured me on One Piece; the series changed so much and few of its blunders have made it impossible for me to enjoy it. But pre-timeskip is still pretty much unparalled as a joyful, imaginative, fantastical adventure story.

Hour spent debugging because I assigned the value to the wrong variable... Time for lunch.

I am once again asking for a CSV editor that is optimized for writing flowing text (ie, with things like spell check, ability to view a cell as a large text box, etc). would genuinely be a huge blessing for video game narrative.

Tears of the Kingdom REALLY suffered from building so heavily on top of Breath of the Wild. Reusing the map removed the sense of discovery that had let such a relatively flat but vast world shine. More importantly, TOTK did little to further develop the plotlines and character relationships of BOTW.

I've been doing a Resist Dark Urge playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3, and aside from getting to see content I missed on my first run (missed Minthara, lost Shadowheart and Jaheira), I've really enjoyed how focused the story feels by having a definitive character arch for the player character.

FYI for fellow narrative designers/game writers: the studio in question is Sentona Games and it’s my understanding they are currently interviewing to replace me. Be very careful with them. They were very nice to me and easy to work with right up until I needed the money I was promised.

I'm not a huge Evangelion fan, but I appreciate how the series & movies managed to feel so reflective of Hideaki Anno's personal life and developing worldview. They're often rough, but always earnest. So I hope the upcoming series closes that chapter and moves onto new characters and plotlines.

The urge to rebase yet another shitty script from 6 months ago calling to me like the One Ring.

Finally got the chance to watch The Substance. The movie hit me very close to home, especially the pre-date scene. As someone who often bails on social events and dates at the last minute due to feeling so physically offputting, it resonated with me greatly.
