#horrorwriterschat I try to construct some kind of weapon from things in my room, then wait for whatever to come for me - as I’ve obviously lived through but forgotten whatever’s coming for me from the night before and I’m not going down without a fight.

#horrorwriterschat Willow Creek and Wolf Creek are 2 of my favourite movies so I’d probably say camping, or travelling the outback. In either scenario, you’re trapped out in the open, miles from anywhere, nowhere to run to if things go pear shaped. And probably with no phone signal too! I’m so dead.

#horrorwriterschat The equinox-12 hours of day followed by 12 hours of dark. Except the dark never ended,it got darker.Then the power went out.It soon turned out the real monsters were those all this time, we’d counted as friends+family.They began turning on each other+that’s when the screams began.

#HorrorWritersChat a really good horror gets you invested in the characters before bad things happen, so you start to live the story and experience the horrors alongside them. I love that - it makes me happy feeling like we’re all in this together. I try to capture that myself in my writing.

#HorrorWritersChat I don’t think I’ve ever scared myself writing, but there’s a scene in Fear of the Dark that actually happened. A young boy starts to read the Lord’s Prayer backwards in front of a mirror, and the room starts getting dark around him. I DID THAT +that actually scared me at the time

I don’t think any subgenre of horror is overdone - zombies, I’m looking at you - you just need to find a new approach no-one, or few, have done before. Both my zombie books try to do something different - successfully or not, only you can judge. #horrorwriterschat

I like to drop in little hints of a back story,though sometimes I do go into more detail if I think it’s relevant. My current w-I-p, The Tape House, has several characters and their back story is important,but I only drip feed it a bit at a time as it plays an important part later #horrorwriterschat

Thats it. I’m done. Other than a bit of tweaking, Fear of the Dead 2 is done. Been an emotional and poignant moment putting the closing chapter together for this book, but for now, I’m just glad to know it’s done.

#horrorwriterschat Let me introduce you to my first ever novella, Time of Tides - it’s mostly set on the Norfolk Broads, so doesn’t need many sets and can be filmed on location, and can be shot mostly in darkness or poor light so won’t need much budget
