First Book of 2026 finished. Target this year is only 26, to free up more time for other things. Anyway, The Artist by Lucy Steeds. I gave it 4 stars. I honestly don't know how I feel about it yet. If I'm being brutally honest, I found it slow going, but I did enjoy it.

One of my intentions for 2026, is a monthly craft day. I've treated myself to kits, even for crafts I've done before. Today, cross stitch. Luckily, I have cross stitched before. The instructions were abysmal and the aida, wonky. So, I've raided my stash, but I won't finish this bookmark today.

Starting the year with a fresh book. A friend wants to start a boom club and this is his first chosen book. Fingers crossed it's a good one!

In book news... An Evening with Lee Child, in conversation with Louise Minchin has netted a small stack of signed books. Well worth the evening out. Back to gigs tomorrow though, and alas, still on homework book for college so these will have to wait a little while to be read!

I have an online, family calendar. I am supposed to check this before booking stuff. I do, in fact, usually, check this before I book stuff in. However, I have discovered that my method needs work, because, you see, I check *that* day. I do not check what else is going on in the surrounding days...

Migraine Diaries. I suffer from migraines. Not as frequently as I used to, not as severely (usually) as I used to, and not for as long (hopefully) as I used to, and not as bad (in each case) as other people that I know. I've made changes, I've tried things that help.

If you hit a cat while you're driving. Please stop. Please, even if there's nothing to be done, take the cat to a vet to scan the microchip. To the driver yesterday, who just kept going. I hope you never ever suffer the day we had yesterday.

Book 5: The Radium Girls, Kate Moore This book made me angry. More people should read it.

Book 4 The Wildwater Women, Ellie Hart Another Bookclub book. Again, not something I'd have chosen for myself. The story itself is nice enough, and I've not tried the recipe yet, will feedback when I do.

Book 3 A Place Called Winter, Patrick Gale This was a book club read from last year that I didn't get finished on time, but wanted to keep going with it. Only gave this one three stars, if I'm honest, primarily due to the lack of happy endings for a few particular characters.

Second finish of 2025 The Book of Lost Names, Kristin Harmel. WWII, Eva Traube & her mother narrowly avoid being arrested with her father when the Nazis take 1500 Jewish people in raids in Paris. They flee south on papers Eva has forged, and Eva learns to be a better forger to assist children flee.

First book of 2025 finished before book club tomorrow. Not one I'd've chosen myself, but an easy read to start the year: The Christmas Book Club by Sarah Morgan. 3 friends usually meet up for a week long book club in the summer, but this year they had to postpone until December.

Why is it when you need to be up early tomorrow, that you have the most trouble sleeping? Going to need all the caffeine in the morning.

A note to authors/editors who write diet books & recipe books. We're not stupid, please don't lie to us. Kale chips do not taste better than commercially produced crisps. You know this. I know this. Everybody knows this. They make a good substitute, sure. But they do not taste better. Just. Stop.
