I said something last week that is more broadly applicable today: Calling for empathy is not neutral or apolitical when only one group of people have been socialized and brutalized into having empathy.

In 2006, I taught the first US stand-alone full semester LGBTQ K12 education course, Queer Kids/Straight Schools. I went on to teach Goodgirls, Sluts, & Dykes, and a course on queer bullying, Queers, Bullies, & Teachers. Cannot imagine proposing these now as universities capitulate.
