Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009) 7/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀 A fine prequel taking established lore and flashbacks and stretches it out. Bill Nighy is great. It's fun seeing Viktor in his prime. A refreshing mix of horror and fantasy, a new action style. Still, feels like a story told in the first film.

Underworld: Evolution (2006) 8/10 🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸💀💀 An awesome sequel that builds upon the lore of the Corvinus family. Marcus is one of the coolest vampire designs ever, seeing him fight never gets old. His relationship with his brother is fascinating. Selene continues to kick ass. Fun from start to end

Underworld (2003) 9/10 🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸💀 A great blend of action and horror. The vampire and lycan clans are fleshed out. Lots of lore and character backstory to explore in sequels. The effects still look excellent 20+ years later. The action mixes guns and classic monster fights. One of my favorites!

Iron Lung (2026) 7.5/10 🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸❓️💀💀 Maybe an 8 after a rewatch. A confusing but captivating blend of scifi and horror. Claustrophobic and Lovecraftian. Despite technical problems with editing, acting, writing, etc, this unique film has stuck with me in a way most don't. A solid first effort Mark!

The Human Centipede 3 (2015) 1/10 🐛💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 Wtf?! A satire of the US Prison-Industrial Complex told with the subtlety of a sledgehammer. Dieter Laser makes Nick Cage look like Ben Stein. The film looks cheap. Tonally it's gone off the rails, no attempt suspense or horror. Like a bad SNL parody.

The Human Centipede 2 (2011) 4/10 🐛🐛🐛🐛💀💀💀💀💀💀 Dials the gross factor up to 11. Harvey is great as Martin. The end is divisive, but I like it as a meta-commentary on the 1st film and violence in media. Does that message take 1.5 hours of centipede nonsense to tell? No, but it made it interesting.

The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2009) 3/10 🐛🐛🐛💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 From the poster, I thought I was going to get a throwback where a mad scientist creates a monster. He doesn't really make a monster as much as... a thing. Why? It's gross but not really in a body horror way. Weak characters. Bad movie.

It: Chapter 2 (2019) 8/10 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡💀💀 A satisfying conclusion to a story that has always had a stronger beginning. Perfect casting for the adult version of the Losers Club. Pennywise is still terrifying. The plot meanders and is convoluted, but the characters are strong enough to keep it engaging.

It (2017) 9/10 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡💀 A great Stephen King adaptation. Bill Skarsgard is a terrifying Pennywise. He brings the ancient monster elements of the character to Pennywise's personality. The kids in the loser's club feel like real friends. Lots of nightmarish visuals sure to haunt your dreams.

Interview with the Vampire (1994) 9/10 🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸💀 A vampire epic that captures both the glamour and melancholy of vamparism. In an absolutely stacked cast, a young Kirsten Dunst steals the show. Beautiful costumes and cinematography make this one of the most visually striking horror films.

Scream 7 (2026) 3/10 😱😱😱💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 Bland characters and boring dialogue. Leans into the wonders of AI. A bad killer reveal. Rather than a commentary on the state of horror, it's a parody of itself. A couple fun kills stop it short of being unwatchable, but it will be a long time before I revisit it.

Extraordinary Tales (2013) 9/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀 A beautiful tribute to Edgar Allen Poe. Made up of five animated adaptations with distinct styles and an original, thoughtful wraparound story. Great narration from the likes of Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee. A must-see for Poe fans!

Return of the Living Dead 3 (1993) 7/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀 A surprisingly good entry in a franchise losing steam. The reckless young love of the leads is endearing. Julie's zombie design is unique, more like a cenobite than a shambling corpse. Her slow transformation foreshadows their inevitable end.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) 8/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀 One of the best horror remakes! More of a requel before they were cool. An amazing cast. Starts slow but gradually ramps up as the invasion escalates. The way it builds dread and paranoia is terrifying. One of the most iconic endings in horror.

The Shining (1980) 10/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 Gorgeous visuals, amazing sound design, and an unhinged performance from Nicholson. So many memorable scenes and quotable lines. The Overlook is horror's greatest location, packed with so many details. It feels so big and empty yet full of things we can't see.

World War Z (2013) 6/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀💀 A great depiction of zombies. You really see the scale of these massive hordes and their shambling speed. The plot is bland characters going through a series of set pieces. While the ending was unique, it doesn't withstand scrutiny and is pretty underwhelming.

The Bride! (2026) 4/10 😱😱😱😱💀💀💀💀💀💀 Everything good is wrapped in bad decisions. I found the possession aspect very disrespectful to Mary Shelley. Wants to do Frankenstein via Bonnie and Clyde but feels like Joker 2. Jessie Buckley is acting her heart out. The original was right - they belong dead.

Beau is Afraid (2023) 5/10 😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀💀💀 Beautifully shot with great acting. On a technical level it's great and I'm sure Ari Aster made exactly the movie he wanted to make. The plot will split the audience. It's 3 hours of surreal, nonsensical, and tonally strange sequences. It didn't work for me.

1408 (2007) 7/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀 A skeptic spends the night in a haunted hotel room and learns the hard way to believe in the supernatural. The pacing is uneven but the scenes where Cusack is fighting for survival are entertaining. The crrative ways room 1408 attacks him reminds me of Oculus.

The Innocents (1961) 8/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀 A possession film following a governess caring for 2 seemingly innocent children. It's got ghosts, creepy kids, and a haunted mansion. The mystery is engaging and heightens the scares and tension throughout. A great adaptation that's adged surprisingly well!

Carrie (2013) 7/10 🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸💀💀💀 Not bad, but if you're going to remake Carrie, you need to do better than good. Updates the dated parts for a modern audience. Moretz is fine but feels miscast, especially following Spacek. Juliane Moore is a great Mrs. White. Not different enough to stand out.

Carrie (1976) 9/10 🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸💀 Maybe the best Stephen King adaptation. Sissy Spacek feels like she walked right out of the book. She's endeering but also frail and shy, but by the end she is broken yet terrifying. Piper Laurie is unhinged as her devout Christian mother. A horror classic!

Dracula (1992) 8/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀 A beautiful movie with incredible style. Every aspect of the film - the costumes, the lighting, the cinematography - is dialed up to 11. While the acting is mixed, Gary Oldman gives the iconic character everything he's got. A bit long, but worth the watch!

Ringu (1998) 9/10 💍💍💍💍💍💍💍💍💍💀 Must-see J-Horror! Everyone knows Sadako, the phone call, and the iconic tv scene. Sadako is pure evil and her few scenes fill the plot with dread. The cursed videotape is surreal and odd, scarier than if it were horrific clips. Inspired generations of horror to come!

Shaun of the Dead (2004) 8/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀 As great a comedy as it is a zombie film. Equal parts satire and love letter to horror. A sharp script with so many quotable lines, many of which I manage to fit into everyday conversations. Lots of laughs and enough heart to please even non-genre fans!

The Silence of the Lambs (1991) 10/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 An FBI agent needs help from an incarcerated cannibal to catch another killer. Hannibal and Buffalo Bill are horror icons. Great acting. Tense throughout with a ticking clock. Has inspired dozens of horror detective films, still arguably the best!

Send Help (2026) 8/10 🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪💀💀 Darkly funny and delightfully gross in a way only Sam Raimi can deliver. Rachel McAdams steals every scene. Not really scary, more of an intrusive fantasy. A bit too long and it can be repetitive, but a sharp script with a surprising ending keeps it engaging.

Insidious: The Red Door (2023) 3/10 😱😱😱💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 A big misstep. Because Josh and Dalton had their memories suppressed, there's a lot of them retreading the events of the first 2 films. This plus reusing the red demon kills the pacing and prevents us from expanding the lore. Good scares, bad story.

Insidious: The Last Key (2018) 7/10 🗝🗝🗝🗝🗝🗝🗝💀💀💀 A prequel that shifts the focus to Elise, giving her a great backstory. While this film can sometimes lean on cheap scares, the way it explores Elise's powers and perception is awesome. The villain is terrifying, maybe the best in the series.

Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) 7/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀 A solid sequel despite leaving the Lamberts behind. Scary with a creepy villain. Like Rear Window, Quinn's broken legs trap her in this situation. Story has some missteps, it doesn't explore The Further enough, but the characters and acting are good.

Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013) 8/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀 A good sequel that continues to deliver great scares! Like the first, the family is the core that makes this work. Patrick Wilson does his best Jack Torrence. We learn more about the Bride in Black, but it takes away the mystery of a great character.

Insidious (2010) 9/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀 Scary as hell. A haunting/possession film with style. The best seance since The Changling. You care about the Lamberts. They make smart decisions and act like real people. Lin Shayne is iconic as Elise. Lots of jump scares done right. A great start to a franchise!

The Rental (2020) 6/10 🏠🏠🏠🏠🏠🏠💀💀💀💀 A decent thriller from Dave Franco. Unbeknownst to the people staying in the home, a serial killer has turned a rental home into his hunting ground. The pacing can be slow and it doesn't do much to stand out, but the plausability of the ending is chilling.

ATM (2012) 7/10 🏧🏧🏧🏧🏧🏧🏧💀💀💀 A suspenseful and claustrophobic film about a killer who has turned an atm into his hunting ground. The people trapped in this confined space must fight for survival and find a way out. Not groundbreaking, but grounded enough in reality to deliver some real thrills!

Godzilla Minus One (2023) 8/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀 Probably the only entry where you can take Godzilla out and it's still a really good movie. Set in post-WWII Japan with compelling characters and strong acting. Godzilla looks amazing. Great pacing and vfx. An entry that even non-Godzilla fans will enjoy.

I Saw The TV Glow (2024) 5/10 🖥🖥🖥🖥🖥💀💀💀💀💀 Everyone I know loves it, and I'm glad it resonates with people, but I found it slow and not as advertised. The plot is just a metaphor which, while interesting, doesn't stand on its own. The horror elements are barely used. Tonally it's absurd and serious.

Cujo (1983) 8/10 🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶💀💀 A slow start but a very suspenseful 2nd half. The dog is huge and scary, and Dee Wallace and Danny Pintauro really sell the terror and desperation. Clever direction gives you insight into Cujo's thinking, he's like a slasher villain. A great Stephen King adaptation!

House of Wax (2005) 6/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀💀 Not as bad as its reputation or its marketing make it seem. It's a better Tourist Trap remake. There are some cool looking scenes with the wax town. The killer is creepy. It isn't going for realism, it's trying to be a fun 2000s slasher, which it mostly is.

Fade to Black (1980) 6/10 🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬💀💀💀💀 A cinephile goes on a murder spree against anyone mean to him, drawing inspiration for each kill from a different film from Hollywood's golden era. A fun idea, but the acting and script make him too annoying. A fine film, could have been better.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (2025) 7/10 🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻💀💀💀 A fun sequel with enough fresh ideas to build a franchise on. The Marionette is creepy as hell. There are lots of fun easter eggs from the games. Strikes a good tone mixing camp and scares. It isn't realistic or plausable, but it's a fun time.

Alien (1979) 10/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 A masterpiece of scifi and horror! The art direction is some of the best ever, especially the iconic xenomorph. The characters all feel so real, just a bunch of blue collar workers and Ridly rises up and becomes one of film's best heroes. Happy Alien Day!

Dolly (2025) 4/10 😱😱😱😱💀💀💀💀💀💀 Texas Chainsaw meets Barbarian, not nearly as good as either. Every idea is ripped from a film that did it better. Derivative as hell with bad acting. For a grindhouse gorefest the effects are underwhelming. At times it's so-bad-it's-good, but mostly it's just boring.

Bird Box (2018) 7/10 🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦💀💀💀 A twist on the zombie plot. Instead of an infection spreading through a bite, it's madness from visual observation of the monsters. The survivors have to face both the entities and insane survivors. The unique challenges all this presents makes this film stand out.

Revenge (2017) 8/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀 A brutal revenge story. Jen is like John McClane in that she's resourceful, outnumbered, and determined despite her suffering. Like all SA revenge films, it's so satisfying to see her take these men out, but Revenge stands out by not exploiting her for shock value.
