Suspiria (1977) 9/10 🩰🩰🩰🩰🩰🩰🩰🩰🩰💀 A gorgeous movie. Argento evokes the supernatural in the hypnotic score and dramatic lighting, making moments between the violence unnerving. Jessica Harper is great. Helena Markos is an intriguing villain. She gets little screentime but her presence is always felt.

Don't Torture a Duckling (1972) 8/10 🐤🐤🐤🐤🐤🐤🐤🐤💀💀 A great giallo! Its depictions of violence against children are still shocking. A winding mystery of clues leading toward several suspects and a wonderful ending as they close in on the killer. Gruesome and psychological. My favorite Fulci film!

This is Indy. He just made history as the first dog to win a major acting award. He won the Astra for Best Performance in a Horror or Thriller after starring in the supernatural horror Good Boy. 14/10 congrats Indy

Blood and Black Lace (1964) 7/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀 Beautifully shot. Every frame is so painterly, I wish more directors would experiment with lighting and composition like Bava. For a whodunit, there are way too many underdeveloped characters. Once you find out who the killer is, it does get interesting.

Iced (1989) 4/10 🧊🧊🧊🧊💀💀💀💀💀💀 A slow slasher with a predictable ending. Lots of strange character decisions and dialogue from our main characters. In an otherwise formulaic slasher, the ski lodge setting and unique killer pov help it stand out. Very little action, it never lives up to its potential.

Shin Godzilla (2016) 8/10 🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖💀💀 The gnarliest Godzilla has ever looked. He's like Clover, a bumbling thing awkwardly destroying everything. The genius of this movie is the inept Japanese Government's response, reminiscent of Dr. Strangelove. A body horror kaiju vs a beaurocratic nightmare!

Him (2025) 3/10 🏈🏈🏈💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 A disappointing mess. Beautiful cinematography can't save an incoherent plot. The story is more like a brainstorming session than a final script. Apart from the QB practice scene, there wasn't any tension. At times it dips into so-bad-it's-funny, but it isn't consistent.

Cannibal Holocaust (1980) 8/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀 Gritty and groundbreaking. It pioneers found-footage in a way which grounds the horror in reality and critiques the historical record of colonialism. Relentlessly cruel and upsetting, it subverts our expectations of who the source of that cruelty is.

Green Inferno (2013) 6/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀💀 Gory and disturbing like a cannibal movie should be. While it's visually effective, the tone and story are all over the place. The characters are annoying. Where Cannibal Holocaust had an anti-colonial message, Green Inferno's ending can feel pro-colonialism.

Mother! (2017) 7/10 🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎💀💀💀 A gradual crescendo of anxiety with an explosive ending, what you'd expect from Aronofsky. Unlike his other work, this feels like a heavy handed rant that could have been a short. More experimental than the trailer suggests. It's effective at what it sets out to be.

The Babadook (2014) 10/10 📕📕📕📕📕📕📕📕📕📕 So-called "elevated horror" done right. The story is stronger than a surface-level allegory. Essie Davis gives one of the best performances - ever. Her character's bond with her son is what makes this movie work. The Babadook is such a unique type of monster.

Oculus (2013) 8/10 🪞🪞🪞🪞🪞🪞🪞🪞💀💀 A criminally underrated horror gem from Mike Flanagan! Karen Gillan and Katee Sackhoff shine in dual storylines. An evil mirror manipulates by ironically altering perception, ultimately warping the structure of the film itself. A good paranormal investigation film.

So Vam (2021) 7/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀 Low budget but solid film making. A modern queer vampire film. At the heart of the movie is this found family of blood sucking outcasts embracing who they really are. A classic case of the monsters being more human than the normal people. A fun indie flick!

Sinister (2012) 8/10 📽📽📽📽📽📽📽📽💀💀 Creepy as hell. We follow Ellison as he investigates a series of mysterious murders recorded on film. Each tape is a terrifying and creative piece in a larger puzzle. Bughuul is just kinda there to jumpscare. I wish we saw less of him. The twist ending is great.

The Bye Bye Man (2017) 3/10 😱😱😱💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 "Don't think it, don't say it" doesn't make sense. In general he feels poorly defined. As an urban legend, the Bye Bye Man looks very cool and had potential as a horror villain, but his name is so silly. The characters aren't likeable. A big mess.

Together (2025) 6/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀💀 Stunning images and a clever concept are held back by poor acting and a weak script. It's scary but accidental laughs and weird tone shifts ruin the tension. Narratively and thematically it doesn't make sense. A lot of neat ideas that ironically don't come together.

Frankenweenie (2012) 10/10 🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕 I adore this movie! It's a loving tribute to old horror movies. Instead of Victor bringing back the dead out of hubris, he is a young boy who can't come to terms with his dog's death, a very relateable idea as that's the way many of us first encounter death.

The Mist (2007) 8/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀 A good Stephen King adaptation. Like a lot of horror, the characters are caught between the supernatural monsters and the people who are monsters. Great creature design, solid scares, and a gut punch of an ending. This movie puts me on edge every foggy day.

The Changeling (1980) 9/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀 An underrated gem! It's scary as hell with maybe the best seance in horror. George C Scott gives an incredible performance. Watching him face the supernatural to untangle the mystery behind the spirit of the house is captivating. A must-see ghost story.

Black Christmas (2019) 3/10 🎄🎄🎄💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 No relation to the first, the name feels like a cash grab. The focus on the characters works, but the dialogue sounds like a high schooler's feminist tiktok ramblings, very surface level. There's a good movie buried in there, but not a Black Christmas remake.

Black Christmas (2006) 4/10 🎄🎄🎄🎄💀💀💀💀💀💀 A gory remake with boderline contempt for the first. Instead of developing the girls, it gives Billy a convoluted and gratuitous backstory. Despite the farcical twist ending, it isn't unwatchable, but you should aim higher than that when remaking a classic.

Black Christmas (1974) 9/10 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄💀 A proto-slasher masterpiece, ahead of its time not only as a horror film but also in its charictarization of the sorority girls. They're fleshed out, strong, diverse characters, not hot bodies to be killed. It's refreshing to know nothing about the killer.

The Lighthouse (2019) 10/10 💡💡💡💡💡💡💡💡💡💡 Robert Egger's masterpiece! Tense, surreal, and mythic. An incredible script performed masterfully by Dafoe and Pattinson. The lighting cinematography are perfect, any given frame could be hung up on your wall. The end is a horrifying Lovecraftian nightmare.

Queens of the Dead (2025) 7/10 🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️💀💀💀 Tina Romero respectfully pays tribute to her father's legacy, but she has made this film uniquely her own. The film is unabashedly queer and oozing with style. There's a lot of characters but they're all well developed. Zombies, heart, and drag queens.

Tenebrae (1982) 8/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀 An essential giallo! Anthony Franciosa steals the show as Peter Neal, an author investigating a serial killer obsessed with his books. Beautifully shot by Argento with artistic yet shocking kills. The twist at the end is excellent. A very creepy killer.

The Wailing (2016) 9/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀 A genius story with one of the most memorable and stressful endings in horror. The story is always one step ahead of the audience's expectations. Joon-goo is such a relatable and sympathetic protagonist. A film that requires and deserves your complete attention.

The Menu (2022) 9/10 🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛🍛💀 Beautiful and funny with great performances from Fiennes, Hoult, and Taylor-Joy. A satire of upscale dining and kitchen culture exploring class, perfection, and the meaning of food. Like a horror version of Ratatouille, the ending will rekindle your love of food.

Holidays (2016) 7/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀 An uneven but fun anthology where each story is based on a different holiday, making it the perfect horror film for any holiday occasion! The way each segment incorporates the holiday is always creative. Easter is the standout, but also enjoy Xmas and St. Paddy's!

Misery (1990) 10/10 📄📄📄📄📄📄📄📄📄📄 Arguably the best Stephen King adaptation. Kathy Bates's performance is one of the best in horror. William Goldman's script is excellent, gradually building tension until it all boils over. It's also a testament to Rob Reiner's diverse directing talents, RIP.

The Mean One (2022) 3/10 😱😱😱💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 David Howard Thornton's clowning lends itself well to the Seuss character. The Grinch looks good, and turning him into an entity drawn to xmas decorations works well. Everything else is a damn mess with a dumb ending. Should have been just a campy xmas slasher.

Curtains (1983) 6/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀💀 A bit of a mess, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Part giallo, part slasher, it spends a suspicious amount of time trying to convince us that Samantha is the killer. It can be slow but the kills are scary, great mask design. Beautifully shot with a satisfying ending.

There's Something in the Barn (2023) 7/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀 A fun horror comedy about an angry little elf. Martin Starr is really funny as the out-of-touch dad who thinks the family will be happier if they move to Norway. The elf looks great. Lots of memorable jokes. A good watch this time of year.

The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025) 7/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀 Would be a good end to the horror series. I like the evil mirror, reminds me of Oculus. The plot can be messy, the scares mostly work. It's at its best when it focuses on the Warrens. Not as good as the first 2, but better than 3 so worth a watch.

Rare Exports (2010) 7/10 🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅💀💀💀 Christmas folk horror. More than putting Christmas imagery into horror, it reimagines the Christmas mythology to fit the genre. Good characters and creepy imagery with a bonkers ending harkening back to the original short. Love the creativity and execution!

Crumb Catcher (2023) 5/10 😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀💀💀 A mixed bag. Builds tension well. John Speredakos is captivating as the psycho salesman. He carries this film. However, the protagonists may actually be the dumbest characters in horror. Their decisions throughout were baffling and took me out of the movie.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) 10/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 A perfect movie! Brilliant artstyle and character design. Every song is a classic. A tight script for a truly inspired concept. Beautiful animation. It captures both the Halloween and Christmas spirits. A must see for kids and adults!

Frankie Freako (2024) 6/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀💀 A bizarre comedy from the man behind Psycho Goreman. It has that same awkward tone and beautiful effects, but doesn't work as well as PG did. The plot meanders too much where it starts to feel so-bad-it's-good, but there's still fun to be had with the Freakos.

The Frighteners (1996) 8/10 👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻💀💀 Starts off like a family film but earns its R rating by the end. It goes from comedy to mystery to horror film but these tonal shifts feel natural. Michael J Fox and Jake Busey are standouts but the whole cast is great. The effects are impressive for the 90s.

Frontier(s) (2007) 8/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀 Still so relevent. Behind the extreme violence is the idea that the nazis were defeated but their ideology lives on. Political turmoil and right wing extremism are present even before we meet Von Geisler. When hate hides behind a friendly face, who can you trust?

Anna and the Apocalypse (2017) 6/10 🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵💀💀💀💀 Shaun of the Dead + High School Musical with a bit of Christmas cheer thrown in. A wild concept for a niche audience, a cult classic in the making. It runs out of steam toward the end and the teen angst will only appeal to the YA crowd, but it's fun.

Bring Her Back (2025) 9/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀 Wow! This film takes its time building up its mystery but it really pays off. It does such a great job throughout dropping little clues. Sally Hawkins is incredible. She really sells this complex character. Quite scary with some very disturbing sequences.

Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) 6/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀💀 This cult classic could have been great. The singing doesn't stop, and except for a few good songs, it can get to be too much. I still recommend it and return to it because of its unbridled creativity and unique biopunk dystopia. Great world building.

Thanksgiving (2023) 6/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀💀 Feels like Scream with a holiday twist. A decent whodunit slasher that leans a bit on cliche, but the kills are fun, the comedy mostly works, and it's paced well. It incorporates the holiday themes well into the horror. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Rec 4: Apocalypse (2014) 5/10 😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀💀💀 It's nice to be back on the main story, but the franchise was derailed and can't get back on track before the end. The found footage, the atmosphere, the mystery - all gone! Manuela Velasco is great in this film but it's not enough to save the movie.

Rec 3: Genesis (2012) 5/10 😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀💀💀 It would score higher if it wasn't called Rec. Not a bad movie, but a really bad Rec movie. Not found footage. All new characters. I like the outbreak at a wedding, it's fun and makes sense, but Rec 2 ends on a cliffhanger and I wanted to see what comes next.

Rec 2 (2009) 7/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀💀 A solid sequel that bumps up the action without losing the scares. It explores the religious and supernatural elements of the first. Father Owen is a likeable protagonist whose blend of faith and science fits well with the virus he's up against. Has a memorable finale.

Rec (2007) 8/10 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱💀💀 A must-see found footage! A zombie film with supernatural elements. The characters are likeable, the zombies are scary, and the setting is very claustrophobic. The end is haunting with great creature design. The found footage is immersive, not jarring like some movies.
