The wonderful Clavius crater in the Moon's Southern highlands. I love this crater as its so distinctive, and the many craters within it, with a wide range of sizes, makes it a great test of imaging and scope resolution. The smallest features visible in this image are around 1 mile across 🔭

Hadley Rille, landing site of the Apollo 15 mission, and one of my favourite features to try and image. It's quite tiny, nestled in the foothills of the Apennine mountains, and needs good seeing to get a decent shot. Taken on Tuesday morning with a C11 scope 🔭

Closer view of Ganymede, Jupiter's largest moon, and the biggest Moon in the solar system. First time I've been able to capture vague surface markings, which I was pleased with. The lower image is a Winjupos computer simulation for the same time, which shows reasonable agreement 🔭

Jupiter imaged on Tuesday morning in good seeing, with the C11. I think this is the first time I've captured vague albedo features on Ganymede, it's largest moon, which I was pleased about 🔭

Decided to check collimation of the C11. It wasn't far off but I tweaked it a bit. I'm happy with this result. Seeing is still rubbish though! 🔭

Saturn on Saturday evening using the Celestron C11 at prime focus, with a Uranus-C camera. Seeing wasn't great and I struggled to get decent data using a Barlow. 6 images derotated in winjupos. 🔭

Jupiter, imaged a few nights ago with the volcanic moon Io; the first time this season. Seeing wasn't the best, but good to get back on the king of planets. 🔭

Decided to get the big gun out to try and improve my planet imaging. Of course it'll now be cloudy for weeks 😕 🔭

Rework of my image of Uranus' moons. I've superimposed a correctly exposed image of the planet to show its true size. In my previous moon image it was over-exposed, to help record the moons, and looked huge 🔭

Tried to catch the moons of Uranus the other night. Seeing was a bit wobbly but captured the 4 brightest. Uranus is hugely over-exposed with more than a 1000-fold difference in brightness between it and the faintest moon. First time I've tried with my 8"scope, but need more 🔭

Saturn taken on 29th Oct in average seeing. It's largest moon Titan can be seen below the rings on the right side of the planet and is just about to disappear from view as it moves behind the disk. The rings continue to close up, as seen from our viewpoint. 🔭

The clouds didn't part early enough to try and catch comet Lemmon. But Saturn isn't looking too shabby, so trying a bit of planetary imaging 🔭

Saturn and largest moon Titan just before it transitted the disk, taken last week. I stopped imaging before it reached the disk because the seeing was deteriorating, but wished I'd carried on now 😕. I really need to get a bigger aperture scope on Saturn 🔭

Comet Lemmon taken last night, 24 Oct. Some fantastic detail in the gas tail, which has changed a lot in only the last few days. Mono image only, due to cloud coming in before I could capture RGB data. 22 x 45 sec exposures. Esprit 100 scope. 2600MM camera 🔭

Another comet Lemmon image, taken on 21 Oct. For this one I used my mono camera with red, green and blue filters to capture colour data, which I added to the main mono image to create an LRGB colour image. Scope was a 550mm focal length Esprit 100. 🔭

Reprocessed my comet Lemmon data to show it against the fixed star background. Taken with my 100mm refractor at 550mm focal length, and mono ASI2600 camera. I took some RGB data too, but not sure if I can use this to give a colour image 🔭

Finally got to see Comet Lemmon a few nights ago.... Mono camera shot 20 x 45 sec exposures 🔭

Final Moon image from a few nights ago. This is the north-east region. The prominent crater near the terminator is called Endymion, which is approaching late afternoon and will soon be plunged into darkness. Lots of great crater formations around this area 🔭

Another Moon image from the 8th. This is the ancient impact basin Mare Crisium. I love searching out tiny craterlets on the apparently smooth floor. 🔭

Mooney time. A few images taken on the 8th just before packing up and retiring. This one is the terminator around Petavius, a crater with a superb fault running across its floor. 🔭

Saturn, taken on the 8th Oct. The seeing wasn't the best but quite pleased how it turned out. For those who use Firecapture, I've been tweaking the RGB colour capture settings, which I'm still not happy with. Would be interested to hear what others do to get accurate colour rendition 🔭

A while since I've tried for Neptune. This is the most distant planet a few nights ago, sporting a tiny 2.5" disc. Seeing wasn't great, so it's a bit fuzzy! I'd like to try for its moon Triton next time, which may be a challenge! 🔭

Reprocessed my recent Saturn pic, using a larger number of video frames to stack. It's reduced noise a fair bit compared to my first go, which has helped me sharpen it a bit more. A bit happier with this one. Dark line across the disk is the ring shadow. Bright line under this is the ring itself 🔭

My first try for Saturn since last year. It took a while to set up my scope for this. I'm feeling very rusty! The rings are narrowing with their South face tilted towards us; they'll be nearly edge on around the end of November. It feels good to be doing planetary imaging again 🙂 🔭

A lovely target at this time of year, the Heart nebula. IC 1805. Taken over 6 sessions during the last month. Processed in the false colour SHO "Hubble" palette to show the distribution of different gases that make up the nebula. Total integration was just over 15 hours. 🔭

Rework of my Question Mark nebula image. I've removed some of the more skewed subs, which has given a wider field of view, and have been more careful stretching the O3 data to bring out more detail. Sometimes its beneficial to revisit images! 🔭

This was a tough one. Hours of guiding problems which I had to reject, and erratic rotation of the camera messed up the framing. OIII was tough to pull out too. But here's my first go at the Question Mark nebula in Cepheus, NGC 7822. I'm already trying to rework it! 🔭

Andromeda galaxy, taken at the Kelling star party just before dawn. I've not done much imaging using RGB filters before, so took a short series of images to test exposure and gain settings. This is only 1½ hours total exposure. I'll try and do a proper session, hopefully with better framing! 🔭

Lunar occultation of Venus on Friday lunchtime. Finally got home to my PC and a chance to process my images. As it was the middle of the day, I used a red filter to increase contrast, which has helped emphasise the clouds. This is the last image I took, seconds before the planet disappeared 🔭

Venus occultation by the Moon. Just over an hour after the planet disappeared from view, it popped out again on the dark side of the Moon's disk, and the natural order was restored! This was taken a few seconds after re-emergence with my minor camera and Esprit 100 scope 🔭

Revisited my Pacman image and reprocessed just the hydrogen and oxygen data to make an HOO palette image. Think I prefer this to the original SHO 🔭

Started a new project last night. Clouds didn't clear until gone midnight, and I had some guiding issues in the early hours of the morning just before dawn, but here is a quick stack of 2 hrs hydrogen-alpha data. The Question Mark nebula in Cepheus. Unfortunately it's too big to get it all in! 🔭

Commonly known as the Pacman nebula due its resemblance to the video game character, this is NGC 281, an emission nebula in Cassiopeia, at a distance of around 9000 light years. I took this through my small telescope during August. 15 hours total exposure, processed in the SHO Hubble palette 🔭

Pelican Nebula or should it be Pteradactyl? Wonderful gas clouds in the constellation Cygnus. 15 hours total exposure, through hydrogen, oxygen and sulphur filters to create a 'Hubble palette' image. I took this over several nights in July and August, cloud dodging the wonderful English weather 🔭

The Veil nebula is usually shown using the HOO palette, but I took 5 hrs of SII in addition to Ha and OIII, which is a shame to waste. So here it is in standard Hubble palette SHO. 5 hrs integration for each channel. Think I prefer the HOO look, but this is interesting. Love the green Ha ribbon! 🔭

Closer crop of the Eastern Veil nebula, taken over several nights in July/Aug. I love the way the blue oxygen gas seems to wrap itself around the red clouds of hydrogen. Light captured using Antlia Hydrogen alpha and Oxygen III filters and a Skywatcher Esprit scope. 🔭

The Eastern Veil nebula captured across several nights in July and August. Processed in the HOO palette, which is close to how it would look by eye. Total integration of 10 hours (5hrs H-alpha + 5hrs OIII). Taken with an Esprit 100, ASI2600MM camera and Antlia Edge 4.5nm filters 🔭

I did some filter tests at 5am this morning. Alnitak is a great target to check for haloes, which can be a real challenge for an Oxygen filter. I was quite pleased with the result. Total exposure was only 15 mins for both H alpha and Oxygen III. Orion was just above the rooftop at 20° altitude 🔭

So I've stacked my Easter Veil neb sulphur II data. 5 hours integration. Now just need to finish off collecting some Oxygen III. Can't see that happening for a few days at least 😕 🔭

Getting a bit fed up of the current spell of cloudy nights. Desperately trying to finish off collecting oxygen data for this, the East Veil nebula, before the moon becomes a nuisance and I lose this target behind my neighbours trees. Astrophotography is stressful 😄 🔭

Reprocess of NGC7331, plus supernova, and Stephan's quintet. I did this to try and develop a more standard workflow for mono RGB images, which I'm a bit new to. Not there yet, but getting close to something I'm happy with. Channel combination and calibration performed in APP 🔭

Nice surprise when I opened the latest copy of Popastro this morning. Forgotten I'd submitted this image a few months back 😄 🔭

Jupiter and Venus at 4am this morning, against a sprinkling of Gemini stars I missed out on their closest apparent approach, which was yesterday, but they'll remain very close together in the early Eastern sky for several days yet 3 moons of Jupiter are visible and labelled More in the ALT text 🔭

Seems ages since I've posted any images. This is a work in progress. 5 hrs integration of H-alpha only, colourised just for fun. I have SII data too, but will be a week or two before I can get OIII due to the Moon getting in the way! I'm juggling several incomplete projects at the moment 🔭
