Experimenting with image scale. Right is with x2 barlow, is very oversampled at f/27, and lacks contrast and detail. Left is no-barlow, is slightly undersampled at f/11, but although smaller shows more detail. Theory suggests f/15-20 is the sweet-spot. Interesting and fun, but more work needed!

Jupiter on the 2nd March. Ive been struggling with poor seeing lately, I think due to heat from my house. From image scale measurement I now realise my current set-up is oversampling, which is not ideal. I down-scaled this image before processing. More testing needed on this.

A closer view of the Alpine Valley, Vallis Alpes, one of the best examples of a tectonic fault on the Moon. About 100 miles in length and 6 miles wide, a narrow rille runs down the middle, which is very faintly visible in this image if you squint a bit!

One of my favourite areas on the Moon, the northern shore of the Sea of Showers. Lots of interesting features can be seen here, including the majestic crater Plato and the Alpine Valley, like a chisel cut through the lunar Alps mountain range

Another shot from the 25th. The "Eyes of Clavius". An interesting illusion created by the morning sunlight catching the rims of craters inside the wonderful crater Clavius in the Moon's southern highlands 🔭

The Straight Wall. Actually a gentle slope, but the low angled Sun really makes it look dramatic! A lovely area with lots of interesting features, including the narrow rille Rima Birt, about 50 km long 🔭

First image of Jupiter, with Io and it's shadow, and the GRS, taken with my new Uranus-M mono camera last night. The plan is to get an IR pass filter which will hopefully help me get sharper mono images to use as a luminance layer combined with colour from my Uranus-C camera. Good to have a plan 🤞🏻 🔭

The cloud is back ☹️. Reprocessed a few images from the last 4 years. The 2022 image is the best of a bad bunch of data. I hope to do better next time the rings are more fully open! 🔭

Jupiter from last night. Although atmosphere was very steady, focus was poor, possibly due to moisture in the air and transparency was poor. There are some artefacts around Ganymede's shadow, possibly dust on the sensor. My processing is very rusty too! Good to get out though. 🔭

Jupiter with the C11 and x2 barlow last night. First clear night for weeks! The seeing was rock steady but I was having trouble focusing for some reason, and I had loads of PC and software issues. The dark dot is Ganymede's shadow. Short video clip which I'll process today. 🔭

Struggled with Jupiter a few nights ago, finding it tricky to focus. It may have been just poor seeing, but I'm also wondering if my house central heating may be playing a part. The boiler exhaust is due south of my obsy and produces clouds of hot air. Something to investigate

Another moon shot from a few nights ago. Sinus Iridum at sunrise. I love the long shadow cast by Cape Laplace. The mountains at lower right, known as the Straight Range, are also interesting 🔭

Saturn taken earlier this evening, just for the record! Seeing was rubbish with clouds blowing across and focusing was impossible. But I think it's good to process and keep these ones if only to make me grateful when conditions are better 🔭

Don't have much new data to play with so I'm revisiting and reworking some older data. This is from one of my better Saturn data sets from the end of 2024, taken with my 8" Edge SCT, when the rings were more open than they are right now 🔭

Rework of a Jupiter image from 20 Dec. For this one I used Registax to sharpen the image instead of my usual Astrosurface workflow. I think it's actually pulled a bit more detail out so I must revisit Registax more often 🔭

Jupiter on 3 Jan. The seeing wasn't the best when I took this. It was directly over my house and I had the central heating on full due to the freezing cold, which may not have helped!

The large crater Schickard, 140 miles in diameter, imaged on 6th Jan in good seeing with my Celestron C11 🔭

The wonderful crater Petavius on 6th Jan. The large rille running from the central mountain to the rim can just be seen, caught in the evening sunlight 🔭

The moons northern limb beyond the prominent dark-floored Plato and the Mare Frigoris. The crater near the limb is Philolaus which is 70km across. Normally inconspicuous it is prominent when seen, like this, on the terminator. The smallest features visible are around 1.5km across 🔭

New Years Eve had some good seeing. Pleased with this Saturn image. Its still fairly light when at it's highest now, so increasingly tricky to image. Probably won't be imaging it for too much longer 🔭

Jupiter (with Ganymede) on Tuesday night. I struggled with dew and cloud so wasn't able to get much data. Pleased I was able catch some subtle shading on Ganymede just before it started to transit the disk 🔭

Interesting to see the rotation of giant Jupiter over the course of only 48 minutes. Its also noticeable how the seeing improved across the series. Images taken around midnight on the 26th. 🔭

Jupiter, imaged last night just after midnight, with my Celestron C11 Great Red Spot is nicely positioned. Some faint internal structure is visible, which may be less obvious due to compression! 🔭

Jupiter on Saturday morning in good seeing using the C11 with x2 Barlow. I'd just recollimated the scope and cleaned the corrector plate, which I think helps, but the dew was awful! This is probably my best Jupiter image to date. More data still to go through 🔭

Another attempt at imaging Ganymede, early morning on 20th. No surface markings visible - poor focus maybe. Ive shown a winjupos simulation for the same time. To be fair, there's not much variation in albedo, so maybe I was expecting too much 🔭

Saturn on the evening of the 19th. Rings continue to open, now at just under 1° open, but i haven't been able to spot the gap between the rings yet. Need better seeing and better processing! 🔭

I've been trying a few new processing methods. This is a rework of one of my better Mars images taken almost exactly 3 years ago at around it's closest approach to us. The bright circle upper-right of centre is the volcano Olympus Mons. A few others are also visible. 🔭

Saturn taken on Sunday evening. You may think it looks exactly the same as the last image I posted, but the observant will notice the rings are 0.15° more open which for Saturn is a pretty big deal 😂 🔭

Im a bit geeky when it comes to statistics 😂 Over the last few months Ive noticed a significant change (drop) in engagement on BS. Ive never been one to chase "likes" but i find this shift interesting, and am curious as to the underlying reason Anyone else noticed this? 🔭

The Alpine Valley. The only shot I got of the Moon last night before cloud moved in 😫. A faint trace of the central rille is just visible. The scope was still cooling down so the seeing was quite wobbly. Sometimes you take what you can get. 🔭
