This is literally the best #poem I have ever written.

My #schweinshaxe is done! Flavour was great but unfortunately the skin stayed a little too soft and chewy. Can't be perfect every time but other than that the meat, gravy and potatoes were perfect.🍽️🍜

Next up was prepping the #PorkHocks for supper tomorrow night. I'm making #schweinschaxe. Skin poked with a lot of holes, meat rubbed with vinegar, then studded with garlic. Rubbed it with olive oil, fennel, juniper, white and black pepper, and carraway. 🍽️🍜

Some grocery shopping and meal prep for the week today. First up, cut up, deboned, skinned, and portioned out a whole #chicken. Normally, I would render the fat and skin down but my schmaltz jar is full, so that went to the crows.🍽️🍜

I do enjoy smoking a #pipe of #tobacco from time to time. Way back in 2022, I bought a variety of different pipe tobaccos with the idea of making my own English style blend, inspired by #SeattlePipeClub's #PlumPudding.

I heard a Mom talking today about how happy she was that someone was handing out bottles of water on #Halloween. Back in the day I would have fucking egged that house. On and off for an entire year. Who fucking hands out water on Halloween How fucking broken are you?

This is the cloak my wife made me from 4 heavy wool army blankets. It weighs about 5kgs and has a lot of pockets and a few hidden ones on the inside.

Blind Date with a Book! Had a popup bookstore at my work. Showed up with books wrapped in plain paper, with a small description. #DogEaredBooks in Oromocto, best local #bookstore ever!

Tonight's recipe is a special one. Everything About To Be Too Freezer Burnt To Use Stew It has Beef Shank, Chopped Pork Hocks, Goat Stewing Meat, Double Smoked Bacon, onions, garlic, celery, carrots, and potatoes. Slow cooked for a few hours. 🍜🍽️

Nothing was harmed today but it was nice to visit our property and do a little walk around. The apple tree we planted didn't survive the drought, the road needs some thinning out and the bypass route we put in for that atv'ers is no longer passable, but the property itself is in good shape.

Did an initial scouting of an area that I'll likely hunt from time to time. I saw two grouse but didn't have a clear or safe shot at either of them before they flew off too far and I lost them. Next time. It was a beautiful day for a walk in the woods though.

Since I had Miss Nellie J being all snuggly tonight, I took a few pictures. She is a Pryneese/Labrador Retriever cross.

Here is my .22! It's a Savage Arms Mark II, left-handed bolt action. I've mounted a 3-9 x 32 mm scope on it and it's a nail driver. Lightweight, fun for shoot, cheap ammo, and it will put meat on your table. Personally, I think if you're going to own firearms one of them must be a .22.

Won 2 lost 3 tonight at #chess night. The 3 games I lost, 2 of those I played good chess but against a great player. One of them I was just playing fast and not thinking beyond one move, deserved the loss. 1 of my wins, beat someone I haven't been able to beat before and felt like I broke a plateau

I've been missing playing #D&D a lot lately. I miss my time playing as some of my favourite characters; Sir Tanly Thicke, Avery Badman, Waxhon Waxhoff, and Hyden Gohseek!

One year ago today, I started up a #chess club at my work! For the first 3 weeks it was just 2 of us. Now we normally get at least 20 people out to play and there are 150 people in the club! Happy Anniversary #FrederictonChessClub!

I didn't slice my bread until this morning as I wanted to wait until it had time to fully cool but it turned out fantastic and worth the extra time I took.

Bread is rising again, before it goes into the bread pans for the final rise and then into the oven. Bread isn't a lot of work to make but it takes hours waiting for it to rise, over and over. It does end up being worth it every time though.

I AM MAKING BREAD! It's doubled in size once, I punched it back, kneaded it, and have covered it to rise again.

My day of #Bread continues. Yeast has had enough time to double and double again, in with the approx. 5 cups of flour. This will now rise/proof for at least 60 minutes but likely 90 minutes before it doubles in size.

Since #BakedBeans are on the menu for tomorrow, I'm getting a batch of brown bread made! Baked beans, and brown bread for the win! This is step 1.

We were out doing some foraging for apples today. I foresee some pickled crab apples and applesauce in my near future! We harvest from a few local trees, in a few different locations every year.

Since @reluctantart.bsky.social is making baked beans for tomorrow, that puts me on bread baking. Nothing better than my tante Georgina's Brown Bread with beans so I'll be whipping up a couple loaves today! 🍽️🍜 Recipe is here for the curious:

October is here and this month I have the letter "G" in my #EatTheWorld challenge so I've chosen, #TheGambia, and I will be making the National Dish of, Domoda! I've been reading about the country, listening to music from there and reading multiple recipes. Won't get to it this weekend but soon!

Economically buying bags of chips makes more sense than buying bags of salad. I have never thrown a bag of chips away because it went bad.

When I look at just how far the nation of my neighbours, my family, and my friends has fallen, I mostly feel a deep sadness. Let us keep trying to be a light, even if it's just a candle, so our world doesn't descend into darkness.

My current, largest fear is the #drought here in #NewBrunswick. I'm on a #well, the levels are lower than I have ever seen. If we don't get a significant amount of #rain before the ground freezes, I am not sure I will have running water at home. Every day I look at the forecast and hope for rain.

My mantra, "Do everything with kindness, you fucker."

We have been in #drought conditions here in #NewBrunswick for awhile now. My #well is deep and the levels are lower than I have ever seen. Was an extra awesome present to have my control panel shit the bed. These cost about $550, fuck. Replaced and I now have running water again.
