In retrospect, Paper Mario's character restrictions made no sense at all because CS and TOK had the most out-of-pocket jokes the franchise ever had. You'd think Nintendo would've been more strict about this than a Toad with a mustache or a Yoshi's Island enemy appearing in the game.

Honestly, the humor in CS and TOK is partially why I wasn't surprised at all that they kept things like the noose, Hooktail's feet lines, and Flurrie's design intact in the TTYD Remake.

Thinking that causal players ONLY play as the characters that they recognize is a very shallow way to think and is borderline insulting.

And even with Mario Kart World's roster, I doubt many children nowadays know who Cataquack or Pianta is yet they are still great additions to the roster and no one is complaining, so why are we drawing the line at mainline games?

"You want characters that more casual fans will recognize and want to play as" is such a dumb take. I didn't know who tf Ness, Captain Falcon, or hell, even Meta Knight were when I played Brawl as a kid but I still thought they were cool. Shouldn't rosters introduce new characters to casual players?

According to concept art from Paper Mario TTYD, Don Pianta was originally planned to be a Mega Mole with his underlings being Monty Moles.

Because if anything, it seems like they pushed Prime 4 to the side to advertise this game. I got nearly as many ads for this game as I did for Bananza.

In the concept art for Paper Mario: Color Splash, one of the early designs for the Red Rescue Squad Toads resembles Andy from Advance Wars, which is another series developed by Intelligent Systems.

Even after K. Rool’s return, Void Kong is still up there as one of my favorite DK villains now. Honestly, I would go as far as to say that he’s second most memorable DK villain behind K. Rool.
