After an extended summer break from Astrophotography I am back in the saddle and capturing photons again. Amazingly everything fired up first time, although many critters have been evicted. Tonight’s target is SH2-125 The Cocoon Nebula, might take a couple of nights.

After a decent haul of clear nights here is some new images. This is my NGC 4631 The Whale Galaxy and its buddy NGC 4656 The Hockey Stick Galaxy. With crops of each at full resolution. A total of 10 hours using LRGB filters with my 190MN scope and ZWO 2600MM camera. #astrophotography #galaxy 🔭

Not sure if it’s just me but for us UK based astrophotographers this must be the longest continuous streak of clear nights in decades, I think I have had nearly 3 weeks of cloudless skies so far ☺️, it’s so unusual, normally it’s a few a month at best #astrophotography

This is another image from my Samyang 135mm & Atik 383l+. This is the California Nebula Sh2-220. I imaged this with SII, Ha & OIII filters and combined them into RGB in that order. 9 hrs total exposure in 5min subs. The bright star is Menkib, an O7 star ionising gas in the nebula #astrophotography

Looking out of the plane of the Milkyway towards Polaris,the bright star in the middle, you can see the Integrated Flux Nebula.This is faint dust and gas illuminated by the Milkyway itself. This is my recent image of M78 in Orion. I have been having issues with my flat frames so had some bad colour blotches so had to reign in the saturation. With some more careful layered processing I might get a better result, but I'm pleased with this for now. #astrophotography #nebula

Had a quick wider field of view of Jupiter last night and captured the gas gaint along with its 4 Galilean Moons, Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto. Captured R,G,B using MN190 and ZWO 2600MM camera with about 50 frames per channel. Stacked in AS4 and processed in Registax and PS. #astrophotography

Occasionally when imaging you stumble across something unexpected. I was focussing on Mu Orionis, however there looked like a lens flare right next to it, but to my surprise it was actually Abell 12 The Hidden Planetary Nebula, its tiny, but wondeful to find by accident 😄 #astrophotography

If you point your camera at Polaris (the North Star) and turn off mount tracking and take a long exposure you get this. I enhanced the colours and contrast to make it stand out. The bright arc near the center is Polaris #astrophotography
