Heyyy… I won an award! And so did 5 other really cool artists. This show was put on by the local art club that I joined this year. Someone I met at the club reached out and congratulated me on this recognition. That part is healing my antisocial heart. ❤️‍🩹

I got to teach again today. My summer Art classes started up and I’m over the moon. It went very well and I’m so excited to improve my lessons. I forgot how much I love teaching. It’s been nearly 5 years. ❤️‍🩹

Attempting to create something that feels like my seizures … and it’s involving lots of figure drawing. Unfortunately, I suck at figures… but I’ve taken a bunch of reference photos. So I think it’ll turn out okay.

Got invited to interview for the adjunct position to teach painting. I was super excited to put these weekend hours to good use… But I’ve spent all day with a rising fever, and aching all over.. especially my ears and teeth. Just eating has been a challenge. The universe keeps me levelheaded.

I’ve been working hard at getting more involved with my local community. Joined an art club, going to teach art classes this summer, and I’ve visited more galleries and had two shows. 1) I’m tired. Socializing is exhausting. 2) I have enough contacts to update my professional references

It’s no longer a music box. I wanted to ditch this idea and redesign a new one. But my 5 year old was already attached to the barn shape… so now I painted it and she’s happy that her lil animal figurines are getting a home. Just needs a poly coat and doors attached.

I made this last year and had a whole bunch of ideas for music boxes lined up. Life kept getting in the way, and I’ve been so sad about it. But I’m starting to pick it back up. There’s a lot I need to learn about woodworking… but it brings me joy to know more and be able to build cool stuff.

Deleted Adobe today. I downloaded Affinity a while ago, but I don’t know it well enough… not that I ever knew Adobe super either. If anyone knows creators that I can learn Affinity from, I’d appreciate the suggestions. I want to learn its photo editing abilities, drawing, vectors, and layouts.

An oil painting I finished in 2022. I’ve been having some new ideas in somewhat this direction… but blurrier. I want to build some new canvases since the new work will be bigger… idk where it’s all going to go, but I can’t stop thinking about it.

I never have enough hours for all the things I want to do. I think that’s why I’m always so sad.

Spent a lot of daylight hours moving dirt this week. We got 3 cubic yards to fill holes. I’m about half way through the pile now. Doing most of it myself. The kiddos have been having a lot of fun, they offer to help, they run around, they play the the neighbors cats, and we take lots of breaks

Ugh I wish I had health insurance. I’m feeling that extreme fatigue again and wonder how close I am to needing another blood transfusion. In other news, my solo show ends at the end of the month. I’m going to add original works to my shop starting in May.

My 10yo offered to make chocolate chip pancakes since I wasn’t feeling well this morning. I could’ve easily said no and missed out on this expression of her love. I’m glad I let her cook. What an absolute sweetheart. Her siblings are enjoying theirs too and she’s feeling very proud. 😭🫶✨

I’ve had a few new ideas bubble up over the past few months. I’ve been doing the pixel paintings for 3 years now… I really enjoy making them. But I wonder if I’m ready to move on from them. I’ve been itching to try these ideas out. Limited time, supplies, and space though…

With a leftover beam and a few clamps, I was able to do a rip cut through this piece of walnut. Pretty happy with the result. I’ve been wanting to do more woodworking to make music boxes. … I don’t have a great woodworking area. The floor slopes, so building a set up would be tricky.

One day at a time… nearly all filled in. Still lacking in all the details and transitions. Currently sitting at 14.5 hours. I really want to finish it this month… gotta get that ‘looming deadline motivation’ to kick in. ✨

After an 11 day funk, I finally was able to sit myself down for a painting session. Added 2 hours to my log. Better than nothing.

The weather is nice and I found a fun surprise in my neglected garden. Brussels sprouts! I picked them and cooked them up. Nice yummy snack. 🥰 I’m hoping to move my garden to a sunnier spot and tend it better this year.

This piece is from 2021. I originally made it because I missed my dad. For me, it symbolizes the constant ache of grief. Resharing it today because my heart hurts.

Having a really rough week. Everything is just crumbling. Inside and out… feeling incredibly insignificant and hopeless.

Just to make this extra clear, I take all my own reference photos… I love doing it and my process will always be like this. Each painting is a memory I have. I won’t ever buy them or generate them. The only reason I’d paint a ref I didn’t take is for a commission…and client needs to own that ref.
