I’m going to do some sunflower paintings next. But I can’t decide if I want to keep painting on paper or do more on canvas. I love how smooth the paper is… but I like how sturdy the little canvases are and I like painting the edges too. Decisions decisions… 🌻

Just learned that waterlilies and lotus flowers are two different things. I’ve been painting waterlilies.

Working hard to complete the lily pad painting today. I just have to tweak the lotus flowers and I’m done… hopefully that won’t take all night.

I hate when my prints don’t turn out right. It’s close, but the print is too cool and too dark. Now I have fix is and wait longer for a new proof. 😭

I did it! I finished this in 3 days, totaling 17.5 hours. It was so much fun and I’m so proud of myself!! ✨ I’m so tired

I’m 12 hours in on this so far. I started this Friday and I’ve been trying to get it finished this weekend. I’ve got a lot to do on the details. But I feel good about it so far. I’m really pushing myself.

Working on making the front lily pads more crispy. I’ll be slowly finishing this one as a start some new projects. Music boxes are back on the to-do list since getting my space organized. And I’ve got a new idea for a quicker mini series of paintings.

Sharing my painting of chickens again. It’s a small water-mixable oil painting on canvas. I took the ref photo at a wedding I was invited to and asked to help photograph. There were so chickens and I fell in love with these two sharing a chair. Completed in 2023 #SciArt #painting

Running out quickly of these two colors. Each tube cost about $15. Every print I sell buys me one new tube of paint. My husband is still out of work and his severance checks end today. I can’t in good conscience keep buying art supplies and digging us into a hole. www.danielledoctor.com

Another section of the show. I had an abstract era from 2017-2021. Called these “Invisible Monsters”. They were inspired by my failing mental health and symptoms I was experiencing. When creating these, I realized that drawing simple repetitive shapes was really soothing.

I hate liars. All of them. And I can’t stand those who would rather be lied to than see what’s in front of their face. Makes me sick.

Started sketching some stuff. It does help pass the time. Redesigning the music box for my 5yo. (I did not like how the first version was coming out… this one should be easier to play with) Also, starting a colored pencil piece that’s been floating around my brain for a while. #sketching

I fixed it. Took me an hour to finish painting that lil area. It’s not nearly as detailed and clean as I’d like. But I’ve trashed all my detail brushes with my heavy-handedness. Waiting for some more 0/20 brushes to arrive. My local store doesn’t carry them unfortunately. #art #painting #wip

I messed up. I miscounted, tried to fix it and everything was getting far too muddy. So I wiped it away with a paper towel. I’ll have to try that area again in a little bit. My brain and body are just so tired. I shouldn’t have touched it today. 😞

My house has 36 less pieces of art in it today. It was bittersweet to drop them off for the show… almost like dropping off kids at school… hoping they stay safe and people are nice to them. … but unlike actual children, I’d like someone to buy them so they don’t come back.

Kylee is keeping me company while I finish double checking and taping up the last boxes. Just about ready for my journey tomorrow. I’ve been planning this retrospective show for about a year. My emotions don’t know what to do anymore 😅

Pretty sure every therapist I’ve ever seen has either “unable to relax”, “refuses to engage in relaxing techniques”, or “does not comprehend relaxation” in their notes… Them: Don’t you paint? Isn’t that relaxing? Me: Um. This is what I do. Does this count?

Last pieces that need cleaning up before they get packed. I loved making these (2021). I poured resin and alcohol inks (I have resin pigments now) onto the acrylic panel and placed an artwork on paper behind it in a shadow box. Lots of layers. I’ve got to fix the frames up though.

I’ve had 2 really great days as I began to un-depressify my house. Also, I haven’t painted in a month… but I’m itching to get back to the three paintings sitting on my desk. It’s good to feel a few steps closer to the living.

I finally drop off art for the show on Saturday. So, I should have time to get back to making things instead of packing after that. I’m also excited to finally get these boxes out of my living and dining room.

This year is been a weird one. I didn’t finish very may paintings. But I learned to play chess and how to knit a scarf. I made a cute music box. And I renovated my bathroom… did the tiling, wainscoting, painting, and tub restoration myself. I sold a few prints from my new site and at an

Probably not making a 2025 self portrait at this point. But I’ve been thinking about doing an intensive study of faces and/or figures in 2026. It’s my least fav thing… so, I suck at it 😅 but I don’t like feeling limited by my own lack of skill so it’s been tugging at me a lot lately.

Hard to believe ten years ago, to the day, I was involuntarily inpatient in a psychiatric ward. Super not fun experience. But dang have I been through a lot. I’m in a much better place now. It’s been quite a journey and I’m proud of myself. ❤️‍🩹

My husband was able to recover some docs from my laptop that I really needed. Yay! I was working on some documentation for my upcoming show when it crashed. All the open files were corrupted on my external hard drive and I’ve been super sad about losing all that work. It’s like 17 documents I wrote

I finished a few paintings this year. But this one took the most time. The left is 2025 and the right is the older acrylic version from 2010 (which doesn’t exist anymore since the 2025 version is literally painted right over it. It was super annoying to do and I’m never doing that again) #art

I had an idea I wanted to work out. It isn’t quite there yet… But it’s got to dry before I do anything else. I’m happy that I finally got to play with paint today. The big nap I took was very helpful getting me back to base.

I’d really appreciate it if I would stop having seizures and stomach issues so I could paint. I’ve been doing other tasks this week that don’t require a long intense focus time, so I feel slightly productive. I just want to paint though. But I’m resting for now because I feel so weak. 😞

Framing the last bits of the show. It’s only a month away. Not too much left to do. Just wiring and packing and labeling the boxes left.

Kylee, my fluffy golden dog, is feeling better. She’s eating more and walking without falling over. But stairs are a challenge because she can get up them… but not down. So I have to come up with a better solution than carrying her down every time. Though I’m impressed that I can and she lets me.

My bestie is sick. We took her to the vet yesterday because she can’t walk very much without falling. They said she’s getting motion sick and dizzy because of ear issues. (She’s been through it with chronic ear infections… not new. Just getting worse) But she also hasn’t been eating. 😞

'In the winter garden' - my favourite geometric garden aerial that I've ever done! I don't remember if I shared it here or not yet - it has camellia bushes in the centre and beds of winter heather and hellebore :) the geometric landscapes are always more challenging and I love that! #embroidery
