A 17th-century critique of astrology says that aspects are stupid because the critic thinks that good aspects work because our human eyes look kindly upon them when we look up at the planets in the sky, and badly with evil aspects.

I was spoiled when checking citations in "Three Books of Occult Philosophy". Agrippa was very careful in quoting his sources. Almost always word for word. Other writers? Not so much. Morin keeps the overall meaning, but changes the wording. Finding his citations? Aarrrrrrrrgh

The "Pico" in Pico della Mirandola, is sometimes rendered as "Picus" in Latin, which means woodpecker.

You don’t have to believe in astrology, but if skeptic makes erroneous claims about what astrologers believe as a large part of your argument, that’s not a good look. Though I don’t think it matters to skeptics either way.

There’s really no such thing as Hellenistic, medieval, Arabic, renaissance, or traditional astrology. Olde astrologers were mostly trying to work out Ptolemy and texts they had access to. Sort of like what we do today.

Since I’ve been translating Latin, over the last few years, I get prepositions mixed up and I occasionally mix up the order of words. I wasn’t always like this. I especially mix up “for”, “with”, and things like that.

I translated this sentence that says “astrologers do not exclude considering the sublunary”, but an alternative translation could be “… do not exclude the sublunary gaze” 🌙 👀 🌙

Reading 15th/16th critiques against astrology, it is clear that critics have always made claims about what astrologers believe, and not what we actually do or agree with - even though in the 15th/16th centuries astrology itself wasn't contested.
