Today my students obtained quite a large amount of dipyrromethane. It's the first time for this particular one that we obtain such a clear batch, so we already that purity is going to be high! We finally polished what I think is a very versatile synthesis #realtimechem #chemsky

People in industry have to spend so much of their time writing long tedious projects to fund the elements they need to do their work? And then they need to provide quotations and write notes to purchase each of those elements? Why is academia so inefficient!!

Another excellent consequence of ChatGPT and the like. I have to do this now all the time, and it's just to see the abstract page as I don't even have access to the papers. I have a deadline of a project tomorrow and I can't even check references.

What I'm going to say it's very obvious to anyone with the experience, but staying at home with my baby is by far more exhausting than going to work.

Today I was notified that I won a position as Associate Professor (Tenured) of Electromagnetism for BSc/MSc in Physics, which I previously taught, since 2022, as Adjunct Prof with a contract. I'm quite happy, as for most of my teaching career (2008-present) I've been under contracts.

Just finished sending the corrections for the BSc/MSc thesis of my first UG student, Valentina! It is excellent work, and I'm really proud of her. We will shortly begin a publication based on her work on fluorescent corrole-containing polymeric NPs. #chemsky

Tough week! The youngest had her vaccines yesterday and developed a fever. The oldest had a flu-shot today. Plus I had to take the car to the mechanic, which miraculously was ready this afternoon. Glad the week is over. Super behind with work though!

I'm almost finished with my wooden table with foldable legs. Still needs some screws, stoppers to stop the legs from folding if someone pushes the table, some sanding and termination. For my first carpentry project I'd say it's okay. I learned a lot! Definitely better than doomscrolling!

The first simulation worked. It runs only for 3 ps, but mixes 3 things I have not done before. MD using a box, to avoid volatilization of the solvents, #AIMNet2, which is quite fast and appropriate for my systems, and Packmol for making realistic mixtures. #compchem #chemsky #orca
