You might think that the mayor of Yellowknife, the capital of Canada's vast Northwest Territories, would be a fan of giant pickups. Nope. He's disgusted by car bloat.

We go back to the data used in a recent paper on climate impacts of different land-use scenarios to unpack one aspect of the findings: residents in denser, centralized, urban areas have far less impact on emissions than in suburban, exurban & rural areas.

For much of the pandemic, I’d walk along Pape Avenue for my morning walks. Toronto’s oldest Jewish cemetery is just south of Gerrard. It is usually locked — but I was always curious to see inside over its high wall. Today, the gate was open. So I peeked.

I think one of my favourite debates in Toronto's queer community is around what to call the different sections of Hanlan's Point Beach. Old Hanlan's 🆚 New Hanlan's North beach 🆚 Middle beach 🆚 South beach Naked 🆚 naked gay 🆚 mainly clothed gay 1 flag 🆚 2 flag What's missing?

“The United States, with its enormous highways, sprawling suburbs & neglected public transport, is one of the most car-dependent countries in the world. But this arrangement of obligatory driving is making many Americans actively unhappy, new research has found.”

A car is often essential in the US but while owning a vehicle is better than not for life satisfaction, a study has found, having to drive too much sends happiness plummeting
