May 5 is Red Dress Day, a day of remembrance and reflection but also a day to call for solidarity and action to end the systems of violence against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people.

Vaisakhi, one of the holiest days in the Sikh calendar, commemorates the creation of the Khalsa and celebrates the spring harvest, the importance of food and selfless service. We were very proud to participate in this year's parade in Vancouver. Happy Vaisakhi! 🌾🙏

On this Transgender Day of Visibility, we celebrate transgender people, both in our union and in our communities. With the rise of discrimination against members of the transgender community, it's so important that we continue to raise awareness and fight for the rights of all.

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination commemorates the March 21, 1960, Sharpeville massacre, when South African police murdered 69 people protesting the racist Apartheid system. We must end hate! We commit to actively working against racism in all its forms.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. As Muslims in BC and around the world break their fast, we wish them joyful gatherings with family and friends. To all those who celebrate, Eid Mubarak!

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the many successes and achievements of women in our union and in the labour movement. Empowering women benefits everyone! We all have a role in moving gender equity forward.

Today is Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) Awareness Day. Whether you work as a cashier in a retail store, a meat cutter in a food processing plant, or operating a fork lift, you are at risk of an RSI. Through robust health and safety programs we can minimize those risks.

So great to see everyone at the Union Open House at Superstore 1554 in Delta today. One of 30 similar events we're holding at Superstores across BC this week, our events on Pink Shirt Day have naturally included lots of talk about workplace issues and upcoming bargaining!

Now more than ever, we need everyone to come together to stand up to bullies wherever are - in the school yard or in the workplace!

Tonight at sundown, Muslims mark the beginning of Ramadan. Over the coming weeks, family and friends will gather to pray and express generosity towards others, fasting from dawn to dusk in an expression of their commitment to faith. To all those observing, Ramadan Mubarak!

Migration is a profound expression of courage and hope, and it is most often not a choice at all. To leave one's home - for work or for safety - is an incredibly difficult experience, one that is conveniently overlooked in the narratives being spun to foment division among working people.

Thank-you to everyone who helped make this year’s Shoe Memorial meaningful. Your donations, stories, volunteer time, and support helped us honour women and gender-diverse people lost to violence. We’re grateful to all who stood with us and helped keep this important work alive.

Each December 6th, UFCW Local 247 and UFCW Local 1518 commemorate the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women by holding a Shoe Memorial, a powerful public display and reminder of how so many women and girls continue to be killed as a result of gender-based violence.

On this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we join with other organizations around the world in fostering disability inclusive workplaces.

Our next Telephone Townhall General Membership Meeting is happening tonight at ⌚ 7 PM PST!

Today we observe Transgender Day of Remembrance, an opportunity to remember the trans people we have lost to transphobic, transmisogynistic, and racist violence, and to support the trans community.

Part of what we mean by "bringing our union to where members are at" is having open houses in lunch rooms. That's why we're making a special effort to schedule visits and events that also engage our members who work late at night and over night.
