A couple of years ago I found Philodromus albidus at a graveyard in Leeds, which was a first record for anywhere in the north of England. I'm now seeing them everywhere, particularly in the garden. Not confirmed to species so albidus/rufus.

The main theme of yesterday's little macro walk was seeing Dagger flies (Empididae) either mating or feeding on St. Mark's flies (Bibio marci) - or doing both at the same time as it happens...

Stopped by at Brockadale yesterday as I was in the area and spotted what I believe is a Hawthorn Jewel Beetle (Agrilus sinuatus). Not the best shot but thought I'd share as I've never seen one of these before. In fact, not many records for them up north.

First Pardosa with egg sac of the year, an early one (28th April). They'll be out in big numbers in the coming weeks. A fleeting shot of the back before she shot off into the undergrowth.

If you're looking for a mate, you need to find her the perfect gift - preferably wrapped in silk. A male Nursery Web spider (Pisaura mirabilis) carrying a nuptial gift for a nearby female.

Despite some dry weather here, plenty of moisture in the rotting deadwood lying around and loads of activity. Here's a springtail (Neanura muscorum) and a tiny mite.

It seems to be a good year for butterflies—this Small White was one of several species spotted in the garden yesterday. Has anyone else been seeing plenty of them?

Loads of bank holiday bees enjoying the sunshine in the garden this weekend. This one is, I think, a Red Mason Bee (Osmia bicornis).

A quick look around the garden for signs of Spring but still a few remnants of last year to be found. A harvestman, I think, Oligolophus hanseni and one of many Cryptachaea blattea spiders I spotted. Plenty of signs Spring is on the way too though.

Catching up with editing some shots taken in Madeira back in October. One thing I saw a lot of was millipedes and I believe this one is the appropriately named Portuguese Millipede (Ommatoiulus moreleti).

Happy New Year everyone! Managed to get out with the camera for the first time in weeks today. It was -1°C 🥶. Still, plenty of little creatures to photograph... Hoping to get back into it in the coming weeks and I've got a few things in the pipeline so stay tuned.

We've got snow here at the moment so I'm keeping warm by editing some shots from a recent trip to Madeira. Here's a Banded Garden Spider (Argiope trifasciata) out on her web.

Plenty of enthusiasm for my first post. Good to see some familiar faces as well as lots of new ones! I'm not all about spiders though. These are all macro subjects found recently on a walk around the garden. So much going on when you have the macro lens on!

Hi Everyone! I'm seeing quite a few new followers in the last few days, likely people jumping ship after a certain election this week. Should I start posting more on here? Please say hi back and I'll give you a follow.
