I think the reason why there's almost no architects and building designers on tiktok is that while it's fun to make little videos, you can get 350k views, 16k likes and 573 comments. And zero enquiries from it.

Wouldn't disagree with any of this, but you'd never get e.g. lawyers doing all this work for free. Upstream of procurement systems is supply and demand: there are more architects than there is work for, so you can exploit them as much as you please.

Part O - the new regs to prevent overheating - is at fault here. And it won't even work to prevent overheating, since they want you to open the window to cool the room down, which doesn't work when it's too hot outside.

A little insight into how archeology all ends up in layers. Only about 12 years ago the tarmac surface under the abandoned carpark turned community garden was exposed. Now thereâs inches of soil on it.

This is based on the false assumption (and common NIMBY talking point) that it's developers (who actually build homes) responsible for the housing shortage, rather than the planning system (which prevents building homes almost everywhere).

Floating bus stops - between a bike lane and the road - aren't inherently dangerous, but the design of the ones we've got in London makes them so. People step out without looking from behind the big advert panel, and you've almost no time to avoid a collision. The back bit should be fenced off.

Some people really care about the quality of art, books, food etc. But people with no sensitivity themselves in those areas, can only conceive of those people as âsnobsâ trying to look superior. This âantieliteismâ has massively won and now weâre living in a world of slop.

The funniest scam that contractors have pulled is convincing councils that trees, despite having thrived for 400 million years, actually require an expensive annual maintenance contract, and need regular mutilation by a person on a cherry picker.

Commonhold would be a vast improvement. Freeholders have no incentive to keep leaseholdersâ bills down and constantly get fleeced by contractors who know theyâre a soft touch.
