Finally got some free time to reflect on the recent #Hooptober movies from the list. ⤵️

The Brood. 1979 boxd.it/1ovS #hooptober Canadian film. Good, not top-shelf Cronenberg. It has an interesting plot and a touch of body horror, spiced with a few violent moments — but it’s not as good as Shivers.

House. 1977 boxd.it/1vsm #hooptober non-US/Italian It’s a shame I hadn’t seen this movie before — the crazy mix of humor, gore, and psychedelic kung fu made my evening. It’s a title I’ll always recommend and rewatch.

The Innocents, 1961 boxd.it/1KeY #Hooptober novel-based The movie is just great. I don’t even know how to write about it. A noble film critic could produce a long essay with <name your favorite critic school> analysis, but I’ll just say this: ⤵️

For my 1940s #Hooptober pick, I went with Cat People (1942). Can’t say it clicked for me. The premise—an anxious newlywed who might turn into a panther—sounds great, but the movie spends a lot of time idling in talky therapy scenes and jealous glances. boxd.it/1vG4

Avalanche (1978) #lsc11Week5 Despite the film’s low rating, I actually enjoyed it. The sweeping mountain landscapes are beautiful, the sports competitions are entertaining, and the atmosphere of the closed ski resort feels cozy and appealing. ⤵️ boxd.it/5aAi
