An amazing charity shop find right down to its iconic 16-bit poster and just for a quid especially when it’s going for 30 times more on eBay.

Bonus points to @edgarwright.bsky.social for appearing in a promo before his familiar but enjoyable The Running Man explaining we were watching a captioned version of the film with descriptive text, I'm pretty sure this is the first time a director has ever done this.

Happy Gundam Saturday, my latest snap build from the superb 08 MS Team I really enjoyed watching, detailing and stickers to follow soon.

As I'm watching Gundam in chronological order, 1995's The 08th MS Team is a huge jump in animation techniques after the iconic but admittedly very dated 1979 original series as well as being a refreshing Earth-bound take on the Gundam UC so I'm really enjoying it.

Even in script form Gary Oldman’s only directional attempt is just as grim, gritty and compelling.

Revisiting Oliver Stone's The Doors (via The Final Cut) and whilst it's still a struggle being engaged by a stunning Val Kilmer's Jim Morrison's character who comes across as arrogant and difficult, the film is a triumph of 90s filmmaking with it's spectacular concert sequences.

Such sad news about the passing of Drew Struzan who was easily the most important and iconic film poster illustrator in the industry with too many incredible posters to mention but his alternative poster for Bladerunner will always be my absolute favourite.

A typically hard boiled, lean, mean, gritty and masculine Hill classic with a classic ensemble cast gritting hard boiled, macho dialogue through their clenched teeth and a glorious amount of shoot outs with an abundance of good old fashioned bullet squibs.

Gave up halfway through the Showa-era Gamera films as they were getting progressively worse and jumped straight to the Heisei-era and just as I hoped, just like the Godzilla films of that era, a superb reboot with excellent kaiju and tokusatsu effects, strong cast and storylines.

Revisiting Chazelle’s wonderful First Man, a stunningly crafted and acted look at the man behind one of mankind’s greatest achievements and more than most, a heartbreaking look at parental grief.

Feeling a bit teary eyed after watching the last ever West Wing episode, this is easily one of the greatest, just a masterclass in prestige TV drama ❤️

Zero Effect; A vintage late 90s neo-noir, a fresh, confident and original debut by writer / director Kasdan, a memorably unhinged and paranoid Pullman, a nice balance of offbeat character-led humour and a gripping low-key mystery plot.

All done with my Robert Redford marathon watching the ones I hadn't seen yet, a fantastic range of films, The Natural was an instant classic and felt very apt I ended it with his charming swansong The Old Man And The Gun - RIP.

Cronenberg at his most personal, a sombre look at grief with hints of macabre humour and vague and confusing conspiracies - loved it.

Kick started my next marathon this time in tribute to Redford starting with this energetic, scattershot and hectic look at the absurdity of campaigning in US politics and the pointlessness of idealism in it, an ever-relevant film nowadays. And the poster is such a banger too.

Well chuffed I at long last found a mint copy of the rare UK one sheet for one of my all time favourite films, always loved this more than the other versions.

Love this bit in Palin and Gilliam’s script for the wonderful Time Bandits, it was originally written as “reveals himself to be none other than Sean Connery or an actor of equal or cheaper stature.” as a joke as they never thought they’d get him only to find he was keen…

This is an absolutely superb read, there’s no one quite like James Cameron and the stories on how he makes his ambitious films are just incredible.

All done with my epic introduction to the Gundam anime universe and going nicely into the very first ever 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam episode…

Going for a Christophe Gans / Mark Dacascos double bill tonight...

If you've seen Cregger's wild Barbarian then you'll know what to expect in his ace Weapons, best to go in cold, a confidently made suburban horror with an instantly iconic antagonist, a suspense-filled plot that unfolds through its characters and a brilliantly entertaining climax.

RIP Terence Stamp, go and watch one of his greatest performances in Soderbergh's superb The Limey, which also has some of the best editing I've ever seen.

Mickey 17; Boon Joon Ho's ingeniously, blackly funny and biting satire on US conservatism, one of Patterson's best performances amongst a game cast, stunning production design, cinematography and VFX, a triumph of sci-fi comedy.

Revisiting David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin's superb The Social Network and it was evident then he was a dab hand at directing dialogue-heavy scenes so masterfully that led to Zodiac, House of Cards, Mindhunters and so forth.

I’m utterly geeking out over this hefty book looking at the 70-year history of Godzilla written by experts and has a wealth of stories and stills. Happy times…!

A wild, goofy and radical take by nicely sticking close to the comics, Krypto nearly upstages a strong cast, pleasingly goes for the 1.85 aspect ratio that'll look great on our TVs and Gunn injects his trademark subversive and funny approach for a bold and entertaining departure.

An absolute must read for us DePalma fans as it includes more recent conversations with him ❤️
