Bubby gave my hat a big horse kiss.

I visited my herd today. Happy to see each other again.

Dandy was a champion Connemara show jumper. He was magnificent to see. One day I went over a horse jump. He turned his head away in disgust then went over the jump in perfect form then wanted me to try again. I could tell he thought I was pitiful and unteachable but didn’t want to hurt my feelings.

Topaz was a Connemara thoroughbred cross. A magnificent show jumper who loved performing at horse shows. She was always badly behaved when it was time to go home and was grumpy for days. If she didn’t win a ribbon I had to give her one so she’d leave the show ring. I loved her dearly.

Cyclone Daryl raced at Churchill Downs. When rescued he was quite nervous. These days he’s quite happy and calm. His herd life is good.

A favorite photo of Jojo. Spring was late so when he saw a splash of sunlight he admired it.

Sister has a plan to get more affection. As soon as I’ve given her lots of attention she walks away and allows me to fuss over other horses. She walks to the exit gate and waits for me to try to go home without giving her more love.

I spent some quiet time with Willow.

When I arrived some horses were asleep with Daryl and Sister watching over them.

Poppy was the sweetest goat.

Sweetpea never played with ZZ Top.

They were running to go for a walk with me. All of them behaved like happy dogs and wanted to walk on a leash. It was a relaxing break from the world taking them for walks in the woods.

Bubby is a Mustang who tries to be well behaved and obedient. He thinks Sister and Calypso are disgraceful.

I plan on visiting my horse family tomorrow. I haven’t had to take care of them this month and I miss them.

My feral friend Bruiser died of old age. That night when I closed my eyes he appeared before me smiling. I saw a dark undulating shadow cross my ceiling. He was saying goodbye?

An early victory in the 6th grade. Our retired army captain teacher wouldn’t let us have a Christmas party. We were to have a test instead. When he left to make copies of the test we decorated the classroom. He was shocked, shed a tear and threw the test in a trash can. The party was on. 🎄

Daryl raced at Churchill Downs as Cyclone Daryl. He was very nervous but over the years he’s become calm and content with his little herd. I saw a wild mare calm him quickly. Ever since then he seems much happier.

Good morning from the Pacific Northwest.

Sister is like no other horse. She would rather get some affection and companionship than eat her hay.

Wisdom about time travel.

All the horses like my sister’s truck. When she got a new one they didn’t like it but as you can see it eventually met their approval. One horse decorated the old one by dipping her nose in mud to paint a fluer de lis pattern all the way around it.

Daryl likes to play with a stick. One day I saw him try to get another horse to play too. She looked at him as if he was dangerous so I stepped up. He likes playing a gentle tug o war. The past few days I’ve brought him new sticks. He thinks I’m pretty cool now.

Sister is a delightful pet.

When I haven’t seen Calypso for a few days she doesn’t want me to touch the other horses.

I gave Daryl some sticks for Christmas. He likes playing with them.

Daryl and I agreed. It’s hard to find good sticks.

December 1967. Just turned 21 in a small town.

The first time I met Calypso she knew I was going to take care of her. She was in quarantine and would only accept treats from me or my sister.

I’m not affected by the serious flooding in the area except I worry about people near rivers or on flood plains. Nobody has perished yet. People and livestock have been evacuated. I live on high ground. My sister with her horses and cats are on top of a ridge. The great rains keep coming.
