Thank you to all of my #CRPLunaMoths cabin mates, and all of my critique swap partners, over this camp session. Over the past 2 weeks, with this camp's encouragement, I added around 12k words to my manuscript. Now also I've set a plan for more additions before the pitch contests this fall❗🍁 🍂

For my Rapunzel retelling, I knew I wanted my lead princess to have a Yiddish or Hebrew name that sounded very similar to Rapunzel. I ended up choosing Raissa (meaning “rose” in Yiddish) because of its nickname form Raizel with similar starting and ending letters. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

Revisions and extensions, plus more beta reads from friends, all before I send out new queries and enter some more pitch contents this fall.

The main trope that inspired TGS was subverting the villain coding found in a lot of original fairytales and their adaptations. Specifically the idea that Jewish or disabled (coded) characters can only appear as villains. As much as I love all these stories and films that always stuck out at me.

Raissa can’t live without her shelves of fiction and science books, or her embroidery kits. Because without them she would be completely bored out of her mind as well as anxious living in the tower.

My only idea for today’s prompt is that I could change from historical romantasy to contemporary teen drama, if only because Asher Rybalka the bard/future prince gives off Seth Cohen vibes (but like if Seth actually tried to be mature most days)

Inspired by villain day, Gisela & Ash— “I don’t think we should see each other if you’re also my boss.” She rolled her eyes. “Oh, come on. If you’re so noble, you would’ve brought that up earlier. There’s another reason, isn’t there?” “Besides you trying to enchant me into losing my free will?”

In Gisela’s POV, she’s just striving to be the 1st witch queen of Cherta, with her mother’s occasional encouragement. So what if she has to “gaslight gatekeep girlboss” the current princess, and steal her crush, in order to do it? Anyone can plainly see that she’s more cut out for that life anyway.

Raissa perked up. "I have this pen pal named Mariya, who sometimes lends me science manuscripts to read when I get bored...” "You must be really bored then," Gisela interrupted. Raissa shot her a look. "Anyway, one chapter was on the flora of the tropics…” #CampRevPit #CRPLunaMoths

In this Rapunzel story, Ash (who’s not as smooth as Chris Pine btw) takes Gisela’s job offer to help the young witch maintain the tower to spend more time with his then gf. But his 1st time in the tower he realizes the magical soulmate pull he thought was towards her, was really towards the princess

Since The Golden Stair’s a Rapunzel retelling I had fun paying tribute to (and sometimes even criticizing) tropes from a certain animated film & its certain studio. So TGS has characters randomly singing, villains trying glamour & mind control for their ends, quirky flirty banter b/t romantic leads…
