Our delegation was in Brazil meeting with APEX, Brazil’s trade and export promotion agency; engaging with key economic stakeholders to better understand market opportunities and pursuing a fair agreement that can help diversify Canada’s trade and support exporters.

Today marks the 44th anniversary of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Charter is one of the clearest expressions of who we are as a country. It protects the basic rights and freedoms that make Canada a free and democratic society, and it belongs to all of us.

Met with Heather Campbell Pope of Dementia Justice Canada to discuss improving Bill C-16 by ensuring the coercive control offence extends beyond intimate partners to include relatives, with a review after two years to consider informal caregivers and other relationships of trust.

Thank you to Elham Seddigh Ayafor for meeting with me to discuss the deeply concerning situation facing the Bahá’í community in Iran. Particularly concerning are the cases of Borna and Peyvand Naimi, including torture and mock executions to coerce false confessions.

I stood in the House in response to the deeply troubling reports of executions and repression in Iran, including the killing of six political dissidents in recent weeks and the persecution of the Baha’i community.

Starting April 20, 2026, Canada’s new government will suspend the federal Fuel Excise Tax on gasoline and diesel until September 7, 2026. This is expected to reduce Canadians’ bills at the gas station by 10 cents per litre on regular gasoline and 4 cents on diesel.

Applications for CDCP 2025-2026 benefit year are closed. Renewals for the 2026-2027 benefit year are open and will close on June 1, 2026. If you do not renew by the deadline, your coverage will end on June 30, 2026. You will need to re-apply to the CDCP.
