I finished the book then watched the movie and I was pleasantly surprised that the movie story absolutely does the book justice. Equally horrific and devastating with an ambiguous ending.

also i think part of what's so offensive is how the racism piece isn't new but it's a problem now because it's hurting other people. i've been carrying my passport card in my wallet since i got it ten years ago. SB1070 was in 2010.

i keep seeing the narrative that this is all just 'poor training', but a handful of straightforward rules stop a lot of these problems. the malfunction is the culture allowing the complete disregard of any and all training. encouraging it, even. no amount of training fixes that kind of culture.

The first little brother we applied for was adopted before we got to him. I put in an application for another yesterday but idk when/if we'll hear anything. Waffles would be happy staying an only child but as the oldest of two I can confirm he doesn't get a choice.
