On Friday, two judges ordered the Trump admin to fund SNAP amid the government shutdown. The USDA had refused to tap into the contingency funds that were available to fund the program that feeds 42 million Americans. It is unclear whether the funds will reach people in time for Nov. 1.

Mike Johnson said the quiet part out loud. When asked why he wouldn’t fund SNAP to prevent mass hunger for 42 million Americans, he admitted he needed to keep pressure on Democrats during the shutdown.

Government funding runs out on Sept. 30, and Trump cancelled the meeting with Democrats to focus on partisan politics instead of negotiating a deal to protect the health care of the American people. Preventing a shutdown is in Republicans’ hands, and the time to act is now.
