In August, the NC State Board of Elections sent letters to about 82,700 individuals whose voter registration records lack their driver’s license number or last four digits of their SSN, as as part of the Registration Repair Project. Is your name on this list?

The 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting women the right to vote, was ratified on August 18, 1920. This did not immediately guarantee all women the right to vote in practice. Full voting rights for all women were not secured until the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 is a landmark U.S. federal statute that prohibits racial discrimination in voting. It was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson during the height of the civil rights movement on August 6, 1965. Today, we honor that pivotal moment!
