Fair representation is not optional. It is a constitutional right, and I will fight to make certain ALL Louisiana citizens are never denied their rightful seat at the table of democracy.

Yesterday, I visited St. Landry Parish businesses, healthcare centers, and held a successful town hall with residents. I heard you all loud and clear, and I will keep fighting in Washington to deliver the resources and opportunities St. Landry deserves.

Today was a reminder that good policy starts with listening and good conversations. Thank you to the CENLA Chamber of Commerce, CENLA Broadcasting, and the great people of Central Louisiana for your engagement and insight on what matters.

The Senate’s vote to gut LPB funding is a direct hit to Louisiana communities. As this dangerous budget cut returns to the House, I am standing up for teachers, parents, seniors, and rural families who rely on public broadcasting every day.

The Senate just passed the “Big Ugly Bill” that will take away healthcare benefits for over 11.8 million hard-working Americans and increase the deficit by $3.3 trillion just to give tax breaks to the wealthy.

What a joy it was to join our seniors for Senior Skip Day with the EBR Council on Aging. Behind every laugh and dance move was a reminder of why this work matters. I’ll always stand up for the policies that put our seniors first.

The seat I currently hold was created by the Louisiana legislature last January. Today we were expecting the Supreme Court to rule on whether the current map will be in place for the remainder of this decade.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, we reflect on the perseverance of those who came before us and recommit ourselves to a future rooted in hope, unity, and justice. We show that commitment not just in our words, but in our actions every single day.

Our town hall in West Baton Rouge was a tremendous success. I’m grateful for everyone who showed up, spoke up, and shared their passion, especially about the future of our children’s education. Stay engaged, stay vocal, and let’s keep working together to build the Louisiana our children deserve.

It was an honor to stand with Build BR, BREC, Councilwoman Carolyn Coleman, Republic Services, and community members today for the ribbon cutting of Erie Street EcoPark. This new green space is a testament to what can be accomplished when we work together to invest in families and our neighborhoods.

Today, I had the pleasure of welcoming Kearra Grisby, the winner of my district’s Congressional Art Competition, to the Capitol. Her art piece entitled “Crown” will be on display in the tunnels of the US Capitol for a year!

This Memorial Day, we remember the men and women who gave their lives in defense of our nation out of duty, conviction, and live for a country they believed could be better. Let this day call us not only to remembrance, but to responsibility to ensure this nation remains worthy of their sacrifice.

I’ve been up all night fighting to protect the right to healthcare for the people of Louisiana. I may be tired, but I will never be too tired to stand up for my state. Keep calling and letting your voices be heard. We need boots on the ground. I’m here and I’ll be here as long as it takes.

President Tate’s leadership at LSU has been nothing short of extraordinary. Though his departure is bittersweet, I have no doubt he will lead Rutgers University with the same distinction and purpose. I wish him continued success in this next chapter.

Members of Congress have the right and responsibility of oversight. My colleague, Rep. LaMonica Mclver was doing her job, overseeing the conditions of an ICE detention facility in her district, when she was arrested and charged.

Today I met with members of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association to learn more about the work that the SOAR Act will do to expand access to supplemental oxygen for those who need it most. This bill is bipartisan and bicameral which means there is support from both parties in both chambers.

President Trump’s first 100 days in office have been disappointing to say the least. While we hold out hope for things to improve, the courts and Congress should exercise checks and balances.
