Thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a historical mystery author with too many history degrees. I write novels set in the Medieval, Georgian and Regency eras. If you picture Jane Austen + murder, that's my style. Kelly Reilly's masterful portrayal of Caroline Bingley in P+P is my spirit animal.

Last night I attended the Man Booker Prize shortlist readings at Royal Festival Hall which was a treat. One of the questions asked of Samantha Harvey was: 'Do you think progress is beautiful?' She replied, 'Yes. But not all beautiful is good.' That stuck with me.

Stumbled across a semi negative review of one of my novellas today. The person got so attached to the main character they got annoyed when she didn't act true to her personality. I was so surprised a reader connected so strongly to one of my characters. Maybe I'm not such a crappy writer after all.

Delighted to realise I have author friends. I know this by the greeting we have for each other: 'Hey, how are you? How's the writing going?' 😄
