If you look up "melodrama" in the encyclopedia it just shows a picture of Clair Obscur. That tone is so suited to the genre, it basically defines it. Maybe because the difference between pre-apocalypse (JRPGs) and post-apocalypse (Western RPGs) settings, is a remaining element of hope and joy.
